| Classic Albums I Just Can't Dig That Much | 1 | | Cryptopsy None So Vile
I've tried to convince myself that this was a great record, but I just can't do it. It's not awful, it's decent, but it's no fucking 4.4. To me, Death and Suffocation are the pinnacle of tech. death metal. I just can't really get into this one, sorry guys. 6.5/10 | 2 | | Ozzy Osbourne Blizzard of Ozz
Without a doubt the most overrated album I've ever heard. I love Ozzy's solo career, not many people on this site do, but I can say that I do. No More Tears is an awesome album, Bark At The Moon is a fun record, and Diary Of A Madman is one of my favorite metal albums of all time. But Blizzard Of Ozz is widely considered to be Ozzy's best, and I for the life of me just can't see it. Outside of Crazy Train and Mr. Crowley, what else is there? This album just goes in one ear and out the other for me. It gets bonus points for great proudction and having the Ozzy man himself on vocals. 7.5/10 | 3 | | AC/DC Back In Black
Like Ozzy Osbourne, not many people on this site dig AC/DC. Probably because they are both mainstream rock/metal acts, and usually artists that come along with that stigma are looked down upon. But I dig the shit out of AC/DC's seventies era with Bon Scott, but the rest after not so much. I actually really like Brian Johnson as a vocalist, he has a strong Motorhead vibe to him, but my main problem with Back In Black is that for an album that tries to be hard and badass, its production is way too clean. If the prod was just as raw and dirty as previous albums, then I might like it a lot more. I'm gonna give it an 8.0/10, which might seem like a really good score, which it is, but its not worthy of the 9.5's and 10's that critics may have you believe. | 4 | | Testament The Legacy
This more of a look on the band in general and not just one specific album. I always felt Testament was the weakest of the Bay Area Thrash 6, which consists of (best to worst) Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Exodus, and of course, Testament. There's nothing wrong with them, they just never caught my interest that much. Only ever listened to their first two albums, The Legacy and The New Order, and between the two I prefer The New Order. I give both albums an 8.0/10. | 5 | | Voivod Dimension Hatross
I actually thoroughly enjoy Dimension Hatross but the rest of what I heard by Voivod kind of bores me. Not sure why. | 6 | | Bathory Twilight of the Gods
I love the holy shit out of Bathory, their first four albums are black metal masterpieces, and their fifth album, Hammerheart, is the greatest viking metal album of all time. While I can say I like Twilight Of The Gods, I can't say I love it, or that I really like it. The vocals sound too chorus-ey and usually I really like that but its played up too much here. Plus, none of the songs here are near as memorable as Hammerheart's. I even prefer Blood On Ice to this. 7.5/10 | |

05.13.17 | I like all of these albums, and don't see this as me trying to say they're bad or overrated or that you shouldn't like them, I just can't dig them as much as other people do, and tbh that kind of sucks. | Xenorazr
05.13.17 | I agree with 3, only other I've heard is 4, but I think calling it a "classic" is a stretch, especially considering The New Order. The big classic I can't get into for the life of me is honestly The Number of the Beast. | tempest--
05.13.17 | "Bay Area Thrash 6"
"Anthrax"
?????????? | KILL
05.13.17 | dno how you can dig dimension hard but find killing technology boring | Koris
05.13.17 | Killing Technology is Voivod's best imo. It's also probably one of the very first prog metal albums ever made | KILL
05.13.17 | fates, queensryche n watchtower were way ahead dude | FakeOne
05.13.17 | "I can't say I love it, or that I really like it"
Gives a 7,5
| Flugmorph
05.13.17 | dang man
blending like its 1999 | FakeOne
05.13.17 | A 7,5 a pretty high mark, it's really annoying when people use grades like this to albums that they dislike, these game journalism ratings style just piss me of. | FakeOne
05.13.17 | I'm having exams now, if I had a 7,5 average I would be in the top 10% of the school. Please don't abuse grades like this. If you don't really like something it's a 6 AT MOST | sonictheplumber
05.13.17 | Ok | LepreCon
05.13.17 | You're equating school grades with a ratings system on a music website and telling someone exactly how something should be rated if they don't like something. 75% doesn't scream LOVE to me and since individual school grading systems don't apply in the grand scheme of things you make no sense. | theBoneyKing
05.13.17 | Are any of these really "classics" though | FakeOne
05.13.17 | Even if you don't compare it with schoolgrades, a 7,5 still doesn't really make sense. Giving aomething a high grade ''inflates'' ratings. If a 7,5 is bad, then what is a 6, a 54, a 3, a 2, a 1? This causes a few problems, because now there are way fewer grades to give to good albums, which means less nuanced ratings for good stuff | FakeOne
05.13.17 | One could also argue that you devalue high lp grades by giving them so easliy, but i don't really like that argument myself, it's too subjective.
What isn't so subjective is you changing the the meaning of average (average isn't the same as mediocre btw) by setting the grade for an averagely good album above a 7,5, while the litteral average between a 1 and 10 is a 5,5, which is why that's a good way to use scores | FakeOne
05.13.17 | Giving ratings like this makes grades even more meaningless then they already are | Source
05.13.17 | I thought anthrax are from new york | TheMagicalBlender
05.13.17 | You guys must've ignored my comment saying I liked all these albums and none of them were bad. A 7-7.5, is good, not great, it's decent, pretty good, whatever you wanna call it. It's not something I'd say I love. And the list isn't about classic albums that suck, it's just classic albums I can't seem to get into as much as others do.
And yeah I forgot Anthrax were from New York, not California. Woops | romulanrancor
05.13.17 | "but it's no fucking 4.4"
yeah wtf, should be a 4.6 agreed | tempest--
05.14.17 | On one hand I agree with user FakeOne, this site in general is far too generous with ratings. Pretty much the standard rating for a good album is 4 which is like 8/10! That's huge! Rym has much more realistic averages.
But on the other hand, rating music is so fucking dumb. | zakalwe
05.14.17 | rym is wank | Illoomorpheme
05.14.17 | Sputnik isn't too generous with ratings, RYM is too sparing. Hell the best albums of all time are only at like 4.1 to 4.2 on RYM. It's too open for some 80 year old fuck to bomb 1's on anything that isn't 70's dadrock.
I don't see widely accepted classics being at like 8.8 to 9.2 out of 10 to be overrating things, that's where a classic should be.
| FakeOne
05.14.17 | @TheMagicalBlender sorry, I didn't read that comment, my mistake. My arguments were based on the album descriptions you gave, which seemed more negative than your ratings implied.
@tempest yeah rating music/art in general is kind of dumb (I don't really know why I do it myself), but as long it's common practice, we can at least try to make those ratings mean something | Ocean of Noise
05.14.17 | 1, 4, 5 and 6 rule. Haven't heard the others |
