I'm interested in your hip-hop journey, because I have already pencilled in a major dive into that area, (starting in the new year). I'm looking forward to it, because essentially I'm (almost) starting from scratch, especially where the old school classics are concerned. |

As someone like you who has been all over rock and metal his whole life and nothing much else except some electronic (looking at your ratings) I found it helpful to check out the heavy side of hip hop first so I could get used to the vocal style over the top of more abrasive beats.
I’d strongly recommend the two clipping. albums I’ve put as your first albums to check because the atmosphere, lyrics and concepts are very ‘metal’.
Then probably Kendrick GKMC because it’s just so good and confidently delivered.

12.22.22 | I may have a slight advantage because of my familiarity with trip-hop (and a bit of instrumental hip-hop), so the beats are something I can already appreciate, but the vocal stuff is usually sung rather than rapped (although a few things I dig have the odd passage / track in that vein)...
otherwise it is literally just Nujabes and Madvillain thus far, aside from that I have very little exposure to it (I did hear 'How to Pimp A Butterfly' come to think of it, need to revisit but some of it was cool). I will add Clipping for sure! |

For me I’d only really played Eminem and some other commercial stuff like Outkast until this year
To Pimp A Butterfly was objectively great but didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as GKMC or Section 80
