Assemblage: Ranked: 1990 in Death Metal

Assemblage 03.21.22	Word to all the other death metal masters on here. Hope the list can generate a little more discussion than the last ones since there's so much more here. We have entered a peak year folks! For the stats, we have 36 full lengths and 62 EP's featured here.

Already jammed Lycanthropy from Phantasm and fucking loved it so cheers for that! I've jammed Abominable since early on in my death metal career but for some reason I thought that was their only release until now. I'm definitely with you on preferring the Gorguts demo to Left Hand Path also. I had the pleasure of meeting Mark Impetigo at 2018 Milwaukee Spring Bash and he is an awesome dude and a true death metal nerd. We were both side by side in the front row for every damn band on that fest rocking out like some dweebs! You could see him revert back to a rabid teenage fan every time a sick riff or groove struck us from the amps lol. Looking forward to future lists. I'm sure you've probably brought it up before but what is your favorite year for dm?
combustion07 03.21.22	Also cheers for the Jumpin' Jesus inclusion and Putrifact also. I've never seen Putrifact brought up but I won a reissue of it in an ebay auction a few years ago along with another pretty obscure 7" by the band Lethal Injection which was pretty solid also. Didn't know Pollard was on the Putrifact release but man for a rehearsal it's pretty damn solid stuff tbh

Assemblage 03.21.22	Thanks combustion, that's some sick shit man. Phantasm was going to be quite a bit higher but I actually dropped it down last minute because the most recent relisten kinda wore me out lol. Putrifact I just found out about when I started making my list of bands for the year to listen to. How extremely short it is, lol. And that Jumpin'Jesus cover for the demo here might be in a top ten favorites. Such a good piece of dm art, it lets you sink into the music so easily. I have lists prepped for up to about 1995/97. My favorite year early on was '93, but when Effigy of the Forgotten clicked it became 91 by default lol. I like a lot of the more deep heavy shit from the likes of that Abhorrence EP up top and Goreaphobia etc, but not sure if it's enough to call it my favorite now, but 90 is probably my favorite up to this point. My list for 91 is just as long as my starting list for this one so I gotta make the playlist and organize it. I usually don't look in advance but I'm hoping I'll find more stuff in the vein of what I mentioned.
Assemblage 03.21.22	@Knick, if you haven't checked any Atheist demos before, I surely would! They turned out to be some of my most favorite shit in those years and helped me like the band a lot more overall!!
