03.15.18 | How was it? They are not coming close enough to my house for me to go. If Barlow was still singing, maybe, but without Matt, meh... | Assemblage
03.16.18 | Just had a chance to come on here to speak about the show...
In all honesty, it was pretty rad. Sanctuary stole the show for me, tbh. They ripped from start to close and I'd say their show was worth the ticket alone, especially since I guess this is considered their farewell tour. The dude filling in as vocalist was pretty fucking cool and brought the goods, vocally and in stage presence/interaction. They really shredded it and my friend was impressed that the fill in was able to match Warrel for those songs. Iced Earth I'd say was Iced Earth, so I'm sure you know what to expect. I'm not sure how their sets usually are, but a lot of it this time around was going back and forth between thrashers and slower stuff every other song, and playing heavy on this sentimental vibe which I can understand as it's their 30 years this year. Again, my friend who was there said they were waaaaay better this show than when he saw them last time with Sabaton where he said they got upstaged hard. Honestly I thought Stu was pretty decent too, I wouldn't say you'd be super disappointed if you happened to go. A better setlist would have been nice but they seemed to have their hearts pretty well into Incorruptible so that's most of what you're gonna get.
Much of the night was pretty much dedicated to Warrel Dane here and there so I'd expect that to pop up when you see them. At my show, the crowd was super mixed and honestly had a lot of 40's and 50's couples, with also some 10 year olds and the typical 20 and 30 year metalheads mixed in. Kinda weird but everyone was cool though. | Assemblage
03.16.18 | Oh yeah, Kill Ritual was alrigght as a main opening act and getting the show started overall, but I'm not sure they'd be anyone's cup of tea around here and I can't say I was into it aside from their "having a good time" stage presence. Fairly cheesy but I don't like saying bands suck just because I don't dig it, and I could see how they fit in. Buuut who am I kidding, it's Dad Thrash. It honestly wouldn't hurt to show up even a little after the show starts cause I can't say you'd be missing much before Sanctuary came on. We also had a local band opening here in Dallas that wasn't on the bill which gave the show an even slower start cause they weren't all that interesting and were a gothic/symphonic band just getting some songs in for the night. Definitely grabbed some beers after that and during Kill just to keep things moving. | RunOfTheMill
03.16.18 | That's a fair assessment. Makes me more excited about Sanctuary, that's for sure. Did the Stormrider songs sound good? | Assemblage
03.16.18 | Yeah for sure. All the songs had a good stage presence actually even if they weren't choice cuts and they did a cool intro to Stormrider too m/ | Assemblage
03.26.18 | Hey Run how did you like the show?? | RunOfTheMill
03.26.18 | Duuuuuuuuuuuude, you were absolutely right about Sanctuary, they really killed it, Joseph Michael sounds more like a young Warrel Dane than anyone else... They played a really good setlist (I've been jamming them a ton these past couple weeks and I was super hyped about every song they played lol). Iced Earth were also super good. I really like the new record, so I was into all the stuff they did, especially Seven Headed Whore and Raven's Wing. It got nuts when they went to Stormrider, Angels Holocaust and Stygian... What a treat! Me, my gf and her friend were up front for the whole thing, and I think they caught the eye of Jake Dreyer because they got to talking to him after the show and he gave us backstage passes. Got my LP signed by Lenny and Dave of Sanctuary and then just had beers and laughs with Jake and Luke from Iced Earth at a bar next door. Really, really nice guys, and it was so easy to talk to them since they're our age (early-mid 20s). Honestly, life affirming night haha, couldn't have asked for more | Assemblage
03.28.18 | Dude, man that is incredible!!! I'm glad you were able to go!! |
