Cut Deeper 30/1/18

deep cuts for you
1Black Mountain
Wilderness Heart

Buried By the Blues

I usually turn to psychedelic music to brighten up my day, but this time around it is rather sorrowful. Surprisingly enough, this sounds much more like a typical Black Mountain song than the rest of this album. And it is also the least joyous and upbeat cut on there. But no fear, fellas, it is not distressing.
2The White Birch
People Now Human Beings

Nick the Sailor

...now, this is distressing.
3Codeine
Barely Real

Hard to Find

A quiet, slow and creeping cut that doesn't explode. Just keep that in mind. It may not sound appealing at first, due to its slow bass play and unemotive vocals in a weird non-melodic mix, but it just somehow stays with you and you have to revisit it and try to figure out what the magic behind it is.
4The Good, The Bad & The Queen
The Good, The Bad & The Queen

A Soldier's Tale

One of Damon Albarn's most Radioheadian songs. Do you really need more?
5Quasi
Featuring "Birds"

You Fucked Yourself

Your old typical middle-of-the-road 90s indie snarkfest with a sweet tangling guitarwork and silly-simple piano play.
6King Creosote
From Scotland With Love

For One Night Only

A perfect example of King Creosote at their high, where everything sounds uplifting and hopeful, even if positioned amidst distress. It's a song that calms through its joyfulness. It's a song that is a beautyof instrumentation and complete sophistication.
7Flying Horseman
Rooms/Ruins

Killer

Here's a spoiler for tomorrow: this is my next review. And more spoilers: I don't talk nearly enough about how much this album reminds me of And Also the Trees. And on no other song is it as apparent as on Killer.
8The Fall
Bend Sinister

Gross Chapel - British Grenadiers

for butcherboy and Mark E.

In light of the Fall's main sociopath's very timely demise I have to add one more entry on the list (foolish I thought this will be a post-punk-less week). This is not their best. This is not their wildest. This is not their brigthest. This is just their quintessential.
