| September 2016 resumé PART 2
I'm sorry if this is annoying to you at this point, but I do it for myself more than for anyone else.
The original list ran out of space, so I'm making another one. As always, if you indeed arrived on this thread not accidentally, but by your own decision and you indeed intend to read these amateur ramblings of a lonely cannibalistic tambouret enthusiast (tambouret=a combination of tambourine and clarinet), write "I like your big hairy cat, mate." in the comment section, so that I could keep track of how many people are actually reading these lists of mine. This is no best-of list, it is just a bunch of records I've heard, that were RELEASED this month. Not the ones I've heard this month, but ones that were RELEASED this month that I've heard. Therefore, as the time goes, I'll be adding more items on the list, since I listen to stuff constantly. By the way, the names occasionally written under the comments are titles of songs that I recommend. If there are none written, it's either because I didn't like enough of them or because I can't point out a highlight. And now a score guide: 10/9 - 5; 8 - 4.5; 7 - 4; 6 - 3.5/3; 5 - 2.5; 4 - 2; 3 - 1.5; 2/1 - 1 | 17 | | July Talk Touch
I did not expect just how explosive and great this album would be. It's a hitting, punching album of ridiculously catchy tunes, charismatic vocals and fine-ass instrumentation and production. There is not a lot more to say about it, it is just fantastic. 8/10
Picturing Love, Beck+Call, Johnny+Mary, Strange Habit, Push+Pull, So Sorry | 16 | | Tokyo Police Club Melon Collie and the Infinite Radness (Pts 1 & 2)
You could say that this is the ultimate final stage of TPC's pussification. No guts, no interesting ideas, no great sounds or tunes. It's just a rehash of everything bland and boring in the commercial radio pop rock. Skip it. 4/10 | 15 | | We Set Sail Feel Nothing
Putting 'shit' back into Emo'n'shit. 5/10 | 14 | | The Gaslamp Killer Instrumentalepathy
Oh look, it's an electronic/instrumental album that is actually digestable. There's not really a single song that I would point out as a lowpoint for the album. Each song and each feature manage to bring up something completely new and different to the table, from orchestral additions, to some world music and more. Instrumentally, this album creates a nausiating atmosphere, and compositionally, it throws you into a swirl of oddity and strangeness. And I enjyoed it deeply. 7/10
Pathetic Dreams, Residual Tingles, Life Guard Tower #22, Haleva | 13 | | True Widow Avvolgere
I get the gloomy Doomy direction this album is taking, but the music is just beyond uninteresting. 5/10 | 12 | | Gong Rejoice! I’m Dead!
I like the extensive use of sax and the thick darkened atmosphere. It really stick in mind. My only gripe is that outside of that the album provides not a lot beyond the usual, except for the times when it turns into a French art movie soundtrack. It's just sort of good listen, but not one for a repeat. 7/10
The Thing That Should Be, Kapital, Through Restless Seas I Come | 11 | | Dysrhythmia The Veil Of Control
First off, the intrumentation is really impressive...HOWEVER, the production is just so timid that it makes it all sound ridiculously tiring. 6/10 | 10 | | The Agonist Five
Agonist indeed. I can see it all working, but it's just not. I sounds really flat. 5/10
The Chain, The Raven Eyes, The Trial | 9 | | Klangstof Close Eyes To Exit
Given the peculiar instrumentation and production, I am really surprised just how dreary it all sounds. 5/10 | 8 | | Heaven Shall Burn Wanderer
'By-the-numbers' has never had a clearer musical interpretation. 5/10 | 7 | | Ex-Cult Negative Growth
I understand that this distorted fuzziness is sort of their shtick, but it just doesn't sound like something they would have thought through. In the end it's just sloppy, which caused the record to fail to evoke any enthusiasm in me. It could have been a decent straight forward Punk album, but again, the disorganised and messy production just makes it quite unbearable sometimes. 5/10 | 6 | | The Growlers City Club
Kind of one-sided and bleak, even though I found a lot of the instrumentation to be quite vivid and wild. It's mostly just kind of unexciting and the bland vocals don't save it either. 6/10
Vacant Lot, Neverending Line, Blood of a Mutt, Speed Living | 5 | | Taking Back Sunday Tidal Wave
Although it is obvious that their good years are far behind, they still manage to bring it and bring it hard. It's not like they try to reinvent themselves, but at least they stay true to themselves with a new portion of fun, catchy and bittersweet Pop-Punk. 7/10
Death Wolf, Tidal Wave, All Excess, Holy Water, We Don't Go In There | 4 | | Tycho Epoch
Another one of those Electronica mood setters with little to no interesting material on it. Yeesh. But hey, at least this one has some interesting instrumentation. 4/10 | 3 | | Nicolas Jaar Sirens
this album
me
4/10 | 2 | | St. Paul and The Broken Bones Sea Of Noise
St. Paul get forgettable, but their music is still interesting while it lasts. 6/10 | 1 | | God Damn Everything Ever
Poor man's Royal Blood. Not that Royal Blood is anything rich. 6/10
P.S.: I've now heard RB's second album and can tell you with full confidence that this is infinitely better.
