BAT 06.22.22	i agree with 6/7/8/11. indiana jones temple of dooms prolly my fav and prior to skull was considered the black sheep, alien 3 is honestly just kind of a chore and i generally love fincher movies. would love to see a proper restoration of friday part 7 buuut in terms of its theatrical cut, ehhhh its better than jason goes to hell but far from my fav paramount movie. i honestly watch jason takes manhattan and a new beginning more than new blood. people don't like gremlins 2? i always thought it was solid.

KevinKC 06.22.22	It saddens me how the Giant monster franchise isn't taken seriously even by the people who like it. I don't consider the movies to be dumb fun. I like their stories and even if the characters can be disagreable or slightly clumsily written, I like their narrative arcs.
KevinKC 06.22.22	Also, about Jar Jar Bings. Here's a theory: The movie needed an annoyingly childish obnoxious character because Anakin IS NOT. Anakin has no father, he is a slave. His mother is a slave too. He partakes in death races in hope he might some day win and buy their freedom. Then Liam Asshole offers him to become a Jedi and leave his mother to her horrible fate. He even ends up going to a space battle. Anakin is given too much responsibilities, too many horrible choices and becomes a totally alienated child. An adult/child character like Jar Jar Bings helps remember how Anakin should normally be and behave. It underlines the violence that is done to the kid.

I'd consider films like the 1954 original, "Godzilla vs. Destroyah" and"Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack" to be a genuinely great movies with strong human characters and engaging storyline. There are some lesser films in the franchise that I wouldn't catagorize as 'objectively good' like Godzilla vs Megalon and Godzilla vs Hedorah, but they still provide viewers with a mindless, yet still entertaining experience. I'd say G:KOTM falls into the latter category, but I still love it because it's so much fun.
KevinKC 06.22.22	Well, I meant Godzilla, Skull Island, Godzilla 2. I don't remember Kong VS Godzilla that much. I really like the soldier's story in Godzilla, even though, sure, he's not very charismatic. I still like the story. I like the story of Skull Island, with the lizards from underground and escaping the island and the vietnam context, Samuel Lee Jackson and the hidden weapons, the WWII soldiers etc... And I liked the crazy family obsessed with Mothra and the balance of monsters of Godzilla 2. And the seriously creepy eco-terrorists etc... I'm not saying I find all this very good, I just don't find the constant accusation of dumbness truly rooted. Of course, with movies about Giant Monsters, there will necessarily be a lot of suspension of disbelief required. I've seen 1933 and 76 King Kong and the original Godzilla. Both I liked too.
combustion07 06.22.22	Agree with all of these honestly. Especially Chainsaw 2 (my favorite) the Friday the 13th and Gremlins. Alien 3 was always killer to me also. Aside from the first Halloween 3 is my favorite of the series. Would have loved to see them go the more anthology style route with Halloween like it was originally planned rather than running the Myers story into the ground although I do enjoy most of the series as it is.

ReturnToRock 06.22.22	Agree on Crystal Skull (how does Shia get hated on but Short Round gets a pass?), Episode 1 (Clones is definitely the worst of the two films) and (kind of) Predators. Disagree on Lost World and especially Gremlins 2 - fuck Gremlins 2.
