2019 Releases Ranked (so far)
Halfway through with 2019 - time to rank the releases I listened to this year up to this point. Positions might change in the final ranking at the end of the year since I did not listen to all of these as much as I'd have liked to. Feel free to recommend me stuff I missed. Cheers. |
26 | | FEVER 333 Strength In Numb333rs
Oh boy. There was a time when I thought this might be the next Rage Against The Machine. I was wrong. Terribly wrong. This is bad. Really bad. 1,5/5
Recommended song: AM I HERE? |
25 | | Rotting Christ The Heretics
Did not have anything special for me, especially the second half of the record could have been left unreleased in my opinion. The pronunciation of the singer also doesn't help. 2/5 |
24 | | Emarosa Peach Club
As with the last records of Emarosa, there are songs I really like, some I don't care about and some I really dislike. 2,5/5
Recommended songs: Givin'Up, Cautious |
23 | | In Flames I, the Mask
Although the singles were party great, the rest of the record not so much. Most of it seems rather fillerish. 2,5/5
Recommended songs: I Am Above; I, the Mask |
22 | | Employed to Serve Eternal Forward Motion
Technical metalcore with some hardcore influences. 3/5
Recommended songs: Bare Bones On A Blue Sky, Force Fed, Owed Zero |
21 | | Ethereal Darkness Smoke And Shadows
Solid one man project with some incredible but also some rather forgettable songs. Impressive nonetheless. 3/5
Recommended songs: Forgotten Shadows, Apocalypse in Your Mind |
20 | | Venom Prison Samsara
Really energetic and chaotic release. For me a bit too chaotic, it became really hard to listen to it front to end. 3/5
Recommended songs: Uterine Industrialisation, Megillus & Leana, Naraka |
19 | | Crafting the Conspiracy Human Error
Album is actually "The Cosmic Key, Pt. 1" but I am too tired to add it, maybe later on.
Solid deathcore, nothing too special for me tho. 3/5
Recommended songs: Dimension Door, The Traveler |
18 | | Wormwitch Heaven that Dwells Within
Not sure what I think of this one. I tried to like it and listened to it a lot, but whenever I try to think about this record there is literally nothing I can remember it seems. 3/5
Recommended songs: Vernal Womb, Two Wolves, Spirit Braid |
17 | | Jinjer Micro
Solid EP, liked some, disliked some. 3,5/5
Recommended songs: Teacher, Teacher; Perennial |
16 | | Funereal Presence Achatius
More on a chaotic black metal side of things. Interesting, but not sure if it is for me really. 3,5/5
Recommended songs: Wherein a Messenger of the Devil Appeared |
15 | | Dust Bolt Trapped in Chaos
Thrash metal from Germany with some more heavy metal influence this time around. Still makes for a great record. 3,5/5
Recommended songs: Trapped In Chaos, Killing Time, Shed My Skin |
14 | | Haimad The Return
Melodic black metal band that returned with this record. 3,5/5
Recommended songs: The Prophecy |
13 | | NONE Damp Chill of Life
If you like older Burzum style black metal this is the record for you. Probably will also move up a bit till the end of the year, some of my favorite songs on here. 3,5/5
Recommended songs: It's Painless to Let Go, The Damp Chill of Life |
12 | | American Football American Football (LP3)
Just started listening to this and I really enjoy it so far. Especially if you pay attention to the lyrics this one hits home in a lot of regards. 3,5/5
Recommended songs: Uncomfortably Numb, Heir Apparent |
11 | | Darkthrone Old Star
Interesting record, especially since I am only familiar with their older releases. Although it is not my style of music really, it is still a great record. 3,5/5
Recommended songs: The Hardship of the Scots, Alp Man |
10 | | Downfall of Gaia Ethic of Radical Finitude
Reminded me a lot about Harakiri For The Sky, which is probably why I also like this a bunch. I think this might also move up a bit still. 4/5
Recommended songs: We Pursue the Serpent of Time, Guided Through a Starless Night |
9 | | AngelMaker AngelMaker
Deathcore with all the elements that are needed. The songs individually are good but it did not catch me as a record itself I guess. 4/5
Recommended songs: Bloodthirster, Radiance in the Light of a Dying Sun, Requiem |
8 | | Vimur Triumphant Master of Fates
This might move up a bit since Consumed by the Source is probably my favorite song so far this year. Great drum work, haunting vocals, overall impressive record. Glad I found out about them. 4/5
Recommended songs: Consumed by the Source, Adversarial Impetus Ignition, Supreme Preemption of the Lightless Empire |
7 | | Osiah Kingdom of Lies
Deathcore with some impressive growling. Overall pretty solid. 4/5
Recommended songs: Red Hue Upon a Lunar Equinox, Telluric Necromancy |
6 | | Traveler (CAN) Traveler
Not the style I usually enjoy but thanks to reddit I checked this one out and it did not let me down, catchy and fun listen. 4/5
Recommended songs: Fallen Heroes, Speed Queen, Mindless Maze |
5 | | Whitechapel The Valley
Probably the first incorporation of clean vocals in deathcore I really enjoyed. Also some great stuff lyrically. The vocals of Phil are absolutely disgusting live by the way. 4/5
Recommended songs: When a Demon Defiles a Witch, We Are One, Brimstone |
4 | | Bring Me The Horizon Amo
Okay, okay, I know, but hold on, this is actually a good record, although their fan base is pretty bad. It was impressive for me how they managed to throw all these different styles together and still make a record I did not hate and in fact started to love pretty fast. Substantial step up from their last effort. 4/5
Recommended songs: nihilist blues, wonderful life, MANTRA |
3 | | Eluveitie Ategnatos
First non-acoustic record with their new singer and damn, most songs on here are catchy and overall well-crafted. 4/5
Recommended songs: The Slumber, Rebirth, Ambiramus |
2 | | Vanum Ageless Fire
Great black metal. 4/5
Recommended songs: Eternity, Ageless Fire |
1 | | Saor Forgotten Paths
My favorite release of the year so far. Great atmospheric black metal record with folk and melodeath influences. 4,5/5
Recommended songs: Bron, Forgotten Paths |
