Does New Singer = New Band?

Was having this discussion with a friend the other day - when a band gets a new singer, whether you feel they end up being better or worse than before, do you feel they're even the same band at that point? And if not, should they be using a different name? I get it almost always doesn't make sense at that point to re-name your band, but do you almost wish they would if it wasn't for financial/branding purposes? Is there any point in which getting a new singer warrants re-naming the band for you?
1Alice in Chains
Black Gives Way to Blue

I want to love DuVall and the music AiC has put out post-Layne... and they have put out some good tunes after Staley passed... but the soul of the band just isn't there for me anymore.
2Black Sabbath
Heaven and Hell

I'll always love Dio more than Ozzy, but admittedly Dio's lyrics just brought and entirely different tone and feel to Sabbath that makes me go "wait wut" (and yes I know I'm glossing over Gillan)
3Killswitch Engage
The End of Heartache

Jesse to Howard to Jesse. Even looking at before Jesse came back.. I never had an issue here I suppose.
4Stone Temple Pilots
High Rise

The swagger of this band died with Weiland. He WAS STP. I don't even remember what happened with their court filings while he was still alive, but I'm sure the rest of the band knew no one would care about them if they used a new name and got a new singer.

Back In Black

Bon Scott died. Oh hai Brian Johnson. Whatever... and now Axel? What a great story.
