Story Time - Molly & Fleeting Love

As we're still in a lockdown, thought I'd write about a story which is basically impossible right now from my old Uni days and when going out to clubs wasn't illegal.
1The Streets
A Grand Don't Come For Free

I'm 22, in my final year of University, generally hating the stress and finality of it. It's the last day of 2nd term and I'm edging for a heavy night out for the first time in ages with a bunch of friends I've managed to get quite close to over the last term or so.

To celebrate the fitting occasion, I was able to convince a friend to try out some cleanly sourced mdma I managed to get a hold of. Been a while since I've rolled due to some previous near trainwrecks but I had confidence in this stuff. The others are a little iffy on it, so me and my mate keep it to ourselves, take all necessary precautions (magnesium pills are lifesavers) and head out for the night.

Skrillex and Diplo Present Jack U

There are about 6 of us who make it out from the pres in the end. As per usual, I've timed the come up awfully, not taking into account that one of our members is actually now very drunk and taking their own sweet time walking to where we need to be. Maybe it's more due to the fact time is moving a bit slower.

Myself and my mate disband from the group to head to wherever the music is faster to not waste the feeling. We stand in the queue, literally buzzing waiting to get in, trying to act as normal as possible. Due to the nature of the scene in my town, we're temporarily held up in a place that plays contemporary 2010s chart hits but it's not like we fucking care at this point.

Rokstarr

Me and said friend are having a whale of a time now to some questionable throwback tunes when the rest of our group finally arrives after what felt like at least an hour. Don't really care tbh, come join in and holy shit, when was the girl (who we'll call Kate from now) so damn drunk? She's blabbering nonsense and barely standing on her own. I turn to my friend, give him a shrug and say it's not our problem tonight; our other friend will take care of her.

Motion

So there I am, forgetting all my issues and having a fucking blast, until all of a sudden Kate runs up to a couple of people she knows on the centre of the dance floor and greets them the way you can imagine a drunk white girl does when she sees her friends and vice versa. Oh nice, she's finally functioning, good on her. Hope she'll have a blast tonight like the rest of us... and then something weird starts to happen...

La La Land (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

This minor distraction all of a sudden captivates me. I stare at this girl who I've known for a couple of years now and there's just something about her which is just so... fascinating and magical. I don't understand, what's going on? Why am I not dancing? Why am I so fixated all of a sudden?

And then all of a sudden it was as if all the lights on the low ceiling of this club points directly at her. The rest of the room dims, apart from the very spot she stood on, as if like a scene from La La Land. Soon I don't even hear the music anymore, or the noise around me, all I see is her and her alone. The smile... the carefree dancing... the happiness of her in the moment in the middle of this club. I don't know how but it's beautiful... one of the most beautiful sensations I've witnessed in my entire life.

Animal

I don't know how long I've been staring at Kate for. A minute? 5? 15? I feel a warm explosion in my chest, grip my shirt with my hand in response to the strong emotion. I can't stop but look at her and think 'wow... that right over there... she feels like home'. I promptly turn around to my friend and tell him she's so beautiful. He doesn't quite get it but goes along and says 'yeah... i know' before I turn again and say 'NO... she's SO beautiful man'. He still doesn't quite get it.

And then I close my eyes and wander off into the bliss completely ignoring how strange I probably look and just like that, the peak of the moment passes me by.

And then I exit the club to go to the next, bigger one for more carnage. Still in absolutely awe of this friend of mine but a little dazed and confused at what just happened. I'm no stranger to rolling but that... that was a new experience. I dismiss it for now and try to enjoy the rest of the night at the new location. Nothing much of note happens for the remainder of the night.
8Martin Garrix
Gold Skies

Over the next few days, I'm bewildered but convinced I somehow fell in love with this girl during that night. No chance it could have been anything but that but alas, after a few days, the afterglow wears off and Kate is just... Kate.

Obviously all in my head but this remains as one my most vivid, euphoric and blissful memories of my life. It basically felt like I fell in and out of love within the span of a few days.
