04.11.20 | im using virtual dj, ive had fun with it. one thing thats helped me a lot is using cuepoints to skip from one to another part of a song that are virtually identical, so i can transition out at the end instead of in the middle where its usually a bit trickier. i also would google dj edits of songs that are popular, there are a lot of mixes with extended intros and outros |

ok this may be an offhand comment but its so wrong on so many levels.
generally if you're a dj playing at a club you are using the decks the club has, not lugging huge decks and mixers around with you (especially not on airplanes). you can also just load tracks onto usbs as well which works just as fine but its a who cares situation
secondly people try to dismiss the art of djing by saying the hurrdurr laptop stuff have no clue. there's still a load of work to do creatively when djing and djs who actually get paid to play tend to do so
also somewhat contrary to the statement but also supportive, generally the world of djing has attuned to the art of good track selection over the last decade or so. the best djs in the world are so because they can read crowds, and they can pull out some absolutely fantastic setlists that big up every track
also with your last thing, macs are pretty great for content creation and creatives in general. the os is a lot more streamlined and crashes far less. a lot of programs especially in music are built to work with macs and then ported to windows, because the mac audience is big. you don't want a bsod halfway through your set

04.12.20 | welp, i worked security in a night club for a little over a year and a half.
not gonnna lie, they pretty much replayed the same playlist every night, with slight differences scattered here and there.
every once in a while they'd change/ substitute, other songs in.
basically it was shitty modern pop/dance/edm, with a few shitty fucking millenial rap, and the rare modern rock song that set it's phazers to shit, which usually played in our lounge before we opened the main dance floor |

04.12.20 | im not referring to those kinds of clubs when i say this because generally those djs will be expected to play what the clubs want - im talking about fabric, berghain and the small independent venues similar. there's a whole other world of clubs (and djing) outside of your shitty trashy night out clubs that are actually about the music and not just getting laid/wasted |

If anyone follows the Essential Mix, you'd know that track selection is above all, the most important. Doesn't matter if your mixing is on point if what you play over an hour is dull and doesn't go anywhere.
And also, DJing is surprisingly hard. I'm definitely appreciating what those guys on the decks actually do now that I'm trying myself. Something as simple as getting the phasing right is so difficult with everything else to consider |
