01.26.14 | I respect Pac as a rapper and a story teller but I don't like a lot of the beats that his rhymes are put to. I think Biggie had better control and style, beats, and at the time actually helped to push the boundaries of hip-hop more than Pac, even if he lacked a lot of that empathetic observer of the streets style of story telling that helped make Pac so good. |

Some people tend to disagree, saying Pac's better because of being a more influent rapper and having that storytelling approach to his music. I still prefer Biggie, the man's words were honest, you could see through him like glass. His beats were always so groovy and Ready To Die is better than anything Tupac has ever done. |

the world, then you realize the value and enjoy-ability of his music.
BIG is a GOAT, hes the more technical rapper (not really all that important to me) but relative to
2pac hes flashy and insubstantial lyrically. BIG made ONE classic. 2pac made 5 classic albums. The
hardest thing in rap is to stay fresh after multiple albums; not to make one classic, there are
countless one hit wonder albums in hip hop. |

01.29.14 | "If anything biggie who raps about guns and bitches in every song is boring. Most y'all just haven't heard enough hip hop to
distinguish a shallow/pointless gimmicky rapper from a legend"
OR MAYBE most of us can recognize a more technically skilled rapper. Biggie was a fantastic lyricist, excellent rhymer, and
had a flow that can't be described other than mellifluous.
Everything Nas says in Illmatic is about generic 'life n da hood' stuff,
but does that make it bad? Of course not. Same with Big.
Pac had more diverse topics, but Biggie was the better rapper, period. |
SharkTooth
01.29.14 | 'hit em up> any big diss track'
Big never made a full diss track towards Pac, some disses were placed within certain songs, but the only noteworthy diss
track was 'Kick in the Door' towards
Nas. Also, Hit 'em up is NOTHING compared to Ether, Nas beats anything by Pac any day |
LambsBread
01.29.14 | You assume that technicality is the only/most important skill in rapping, let alone emceeing.
It's not though, any one who sits around with a pen, pad and a rhyming dictionary for long enough can figure that shit out.
What 2pac did was educate people with critical information to their lives, while drawing in their attention by entertaining them. Big might have been able to flow and rhyme better, but 2pac is the better emcee. |
LambsBread
01.29.14 | Thread is not about Nas and again while Nas was a more technical rapper he is fake as shit compared to 2pac.
And this is coming from someone who considers Nas among his favorite rappers, hes corny as hell compared to Pac... you should watch the interview where 2pac calls him out |
SharkTooth
01.29.14 | Yes, I believe technical skill is the single most important quality of a rapper, if he doesn't have the skill, he isn't a good rapper.
Pac's ability to educate people is great and all, but if a nigga is not that dope he simply isn't that dope. That's why I stick for
Biggie, (and if I could Nas)
And Emcee skills I personally consider secondary, mainly because both are dead, so I cannot really judge their live
capabilities. Pac probably was the better MC, but that doesn't make him the better rapper. |

01.29.14 | All of 2pac's albums contain filler while, Ready To Die really has none. Imo Biggie has the best album
overall but throughout 2 Pac's longer career you can find a lot of stellar songs that can compete with
Biggie's best.
2pac's s Speed, Aggression, an story telling are amazing, though Biggie's technicality an flow is what
makes me give him a slight edge. Both are real dope. |
LambsBread
01.29.14 | "but if a nigga is not that dope he simply isn't that dope. " or you are just too uninformed to know
what hes talking about and why hes dope, so you prefer insanely simplistic subject matter of Nas and
BIG where they say simple shit in needlessly complex ways |

01.29.14 | surprise surprise Gnarlyshitbag has nothing substantial to add to the debate and gets frustrated when

01.29.14 | Look, I'm fin with you believing what you wish, but you're looking like a massive asswipe on this discussion. I already gave my
opinion, and objectively speaking Biggie and Nas are better than Pac. You can argue that PAC is the GREATEST rapper of
all time but that doesn't make him the best. Please refrain from making dickish comments or I will have to report you. |
Uranium
01.29.14 | tupac without a doubt much more poetic and lyrical |
LambsBread
01.29.14 | bottom line is 2pac is the better emcee and Big is the better MC. My problem is no one today seems to know or care about the difference. |
LambsBread
01.29.14 | There's not a polite-er way to put it, when you are (relatively) uninformed as to what is happening in the world (no need to be offended, most people are just a product of misinformation) there is no reason for you to do anything but "have fun" and listen to music that's fun. 2pac deals with a different reality than most big fans can even fathom, sorry if that's insultin or upsetting to you but it's how I see it and it completely explains why so many people think big is better when the more knowledgable/ wellread types junk PAC is better, cus they know what he's talking about.
Also If you don't even make an effort to be informed and study things like politics, (a requirment for apreciating 3pac) I don't see how you get offended when people say you are uninformed and that is the reason why you don't understand why pac is on another level than big. |
LambsBread
01.29.14 | Maybe you do know politics idk but from
The way you dismiss 2pac base on technicality alone it definitely makes it sound like you don't know or care about about
politics, or for that matter any music that is made for anything but making yourself have fun. no offense, correct me

01.30.14 | @LambsBread
The thing is that there is a massive fanbase that goes 'fuck all other rappers Pac is the best rapper in the history of ever' which I heavily disagree. I judge rappers by their skill, not by their realness. The thing that made YOU come off as rude was your statement that I don't know anything about rap music when I judge by technicality. It just so happens that I simply don't care for the other features, if the rapper isn't good on the technical aspects, I won't care about what he has to say. This is my mindset, and no amount of hip-hop listening can really change that. 2Pac was the GREATEST rapper of all time, but I stand by the statement that Nas and Biggie were nowhere near as real or experienced, but they had storytelling abilities, which I personally admire. |
LambsBread
01.31.14 | Basically we are saying the same thing, BIG could rhyme and flow better, Pac was a greater person and emcee. The debate is whats more important.
But I think your gettin it all backwards as to which takes more skill. I just honestly don't see how yall can be so impressed by complex rhyming about superficial topics, that you can seriously say something like “big is objectively better”. Sorry if this is presumptive and dickish, but honestly, the only reason I can imagine is that yall big fans really don't care much at all about anything hip hop has stood for, and you just like how it sounds and listen to it mainly cuz its a cool fad. I was the same way once, so that’s my reason for thinking this.
2pac was far more skilled. He could have sat around with a rhyming dictionary and perfected his flow while rhyming about guns and bitches, he tried to strive for something A LOT bigger than that; in other words, BIG never even attempted to be as good as Pac. Big was the greatest ever... for the minor leagues. It took Pac educating himself throughout his ENTIRE life, just so he could think of the concepts in his lyrics, that is A LOT more difficult than thinking of cool-sounding shallow rhymes.
Big made better-sounding narcissistic music, he was fine with spitting shallow lyrics and making them sound good to make money, thats an exaggeration obviously, but basically, thats all he was ever about. The thing is, there is more to music than how it sounds. The poetic side of 2pac is something that Big can’t even be compared with, and ‘what a lot of people don’t understand is that poetry can be even more beautiful as the most perfect sounding music.’ (that’s a quote)
|
SharkTooth
01.31.14 | Look, the way I see it, you can rap about ANYTHING as long as you make it sound interesting, and Biggie just happened to do that very effectively. Pac, not as much, he did somewhat, but not to the caliber of Nas and Big. That's why I don't care much for Pac. My hip-hop is style over substance, yours is vice versa, and also, the two rappers HIGHLY respected each other, they were even close friends for a time, until Suge Knight tricked Pac into believing that Biggie hired the goons that nearly killed him the first time. So let's just agree to disagree on this subject. |
