My Top 10 Albums of 2000
Decided to write out my top 10 albums for each year of the 21st century, so here we go. My picks are pretty cliche but I don't care, I love these records |
10 | | Immolation Close To A World Below
It's hard to find a death metal album that's this solid, consistent, and interesting all the way through without too many gimmicks. It is the true musical equivalent of being tortured in hell for eternity, which is exactly I want for death metal. Also, Ross Dolan's vocals are absolutely monstrous, easily some of the best in the genre |
9 | | Alkaline Trio Maybe I'll Catch Fire
Alkaline Trio will always stand out to me as one of the more interesting pop punk bands to have ever touched the genre. Maybe I'll Catch Fire is an incredible display of raw passion and angst accompanied with their borderline morbid lyrics. It's such a somber and mature step up from their previous work, making it one of my favorite pop punk records |
8 | | Outkast Stankonia
What a fun lil record. Stankonia is filled to the brim with some of the 2000s defining hip-hop and includes influences from all sorts of different genres. Hip-hop wouldn't be the same without Outkast, let alone this record |
7 | | Modest Mouse The Moon & Antarctica
After only knowing this band over songs like Float On or World at Large, it was a surprise coming into this album, not realizing their incredible ambition and variety on a record like this, truly an indie classic |
6 | | The Weakerthans Left and Leaving
With just four albums, The Weakerthans established themselves as one of my all-time favorite indie bands, and Left and Leaving is a perfect display of this. Ranging from indie rock, pop punk, indie folk, and alt-country, This record never ceases to amaze me, especially when reading along to John K. Samson's lyrics |
5 | | Deltron 3030 Deltron 3030
Best hip-hop space opera of all time. That's all I gotta say |
4 | | At The Drive-In Relationship of Command
Easily one of, if not, my favorite post-hardcore album ever. It's filled to the brim with incredibly intricate guitar work and one of the most passionate vocal performances I've ever heard on a record |
3 | | Deftones White Pony
In a time when shitty alternative/nu-metal bands dominated the airwaves, Deftones showed us that there was at least SOMETHING to offer. White Pony is a perfect display of Deftones' versatility, crafting an incredible atmosphere that not a single other band to this day can replicate |
2 | | Radiohead Kid A
Cliche pick, but I can't help it. This was the first album I ever bought on vinyl and have been spinning it ever since. As much as I love other Radiohead records to death, none of them have been able to connect with me sonically quite as much as Kid A |
1 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven
Once again a pretty cliche pick, but this imo is the best post-rock record of all time. It makes me feel like the world is ending and I can only watch, but in the most epic way possible. Every time I put this record on I just get completely lost in every single movement |
