Demon of the Fall 05.31.23	A lot of people thought Bournemouth and Fulham would struggle, me included. It feels harder to accurately predict each year, the overall quality has been raised to the point where 'better players' gets you nowhere by itself. There was a time where a dysfunctional set of talent would still get you so far, now you could finish practically anywhere. Coaching, stability and actually having a functionally run club are all absolutely massive, more than they ever have been (they've always been important).

Owners looking like they're from the city school of sportswashing oil state owners rather than the PSG which is bad news for the rest of the 'big 6'. Again howe is coaching the shit out of them. Getting so much out of the like of burn, Murphy, longstaff and joelinton. If they keep adding one or two isak or bruno level players per year... Demon of the Fall 05.31.23	Newcastle did the clever thing of not going straight for superstars and instead bought high-potential but already reasonably experienced imports and paired them with guys who had PL experience (Tripper / Burn etc.) Howe's also done a great job getting more out of the players who were already there, to be fair to him UCL could accelerate their ambitions, which is a worry, but they will also need a much bigger squad now and who's to say they continue signing the right players. Managing that squad will become tougher as it grows, too.

This season was a complete mess, but I look at the (mostly young) talent we have and can't see us not improving under competent coaching and a less haphazard approach to the market / business-side etc. Poch is a sensible appointment, arguably the best 'fit' we could've acquired (even if Nags would've excited me more).

Sinternet 05.31.23	he def wants that premier league goal record so he won't go abroad until he gets it, but yeah i doubt he stays at spurs unless you mega change things up next season, he also desperately wants to actually win a trophy in his career. there's a chance he does it with england although i'd never bet on that, but after him openly simping for man city to take him before he knows he needs to move on to win anything. both us and united are going through rebuilds but the differnece is we can actually win important trophies through the chaos. whether he wants trophies that bad to ruin his reputation at spurs remains to be seen but you guys have probably at least two or three seasons worth of rebuild minimum before you look like serious threats, lots of deadwood especially defensively that needs clearing out and replacing.

Our best players all suit a 3atm but we've gone out and bought expensive wingers in mudryk, sterling and madueke who don't suit 3atb. We've got a 100mil millstone around our neck in lukaku (not forgetting the absolute walking disaster that is cucurella). No leadership on the pitch since jorginho left. Mason likely going who is the heart and soul of the club. Other clubs will see Chelsea a mile of trying to offload all our squad players so good luck getting any value for them. And no champions league to offer. There's certainly good parts for poch to work with. Young players with a tonne of potential but I'm just worried for the short term that the squad is too big of a cluster fuck to succeed with.

Cucurella can be salvaged with good coaching. We will transition away from a WB system now and it wouldn't take wholesale changes to do so. I like Mount but calling him the 'heart and soul' of the club is a bit of a stretch for me. He's certainly replaceable and seems to want guaranteed 'big-time player' type money / assurances, which the club is rightly reluctant to give him. The rumours are Man Utd are in for him and we'll see how much he gets, but I imagine the sums won't be budget friendly. The problem with Mason is it's hard to see where he fits in. No-one really knows what his best position is. Not disciplined enough to be a midfielder, but not consistently prolific enough to be an attacker. I think he could be a good #8 in the right system, yet we're unlikely to play that way under Poch.
Sinternet 05.31.23	there's a reason mount has been in favour with so many managers and thats because he's a utility player, he does whatever is asked of him to a high enough standard despite not being world-class in any particular area, 10 goals and 10 assists from midfield last season is nothing to be sniffed at. now rumour is he is asking for stupid wages and was offered the same deal as james was which would be more than fair and if he goes because of that then whatever, but he has the chelsea identity and background which is what i think is meant by 'heart and soul' - regardless he wasn't our poty two seasons in a row for nothing (aside from james being injured half the time) and one shit season in which he was mostly injured and everyone underperformed anyway is not worth dismissing him as much as some people want to make him a scapegoat. i agree with cucurella, got thrust immediately into the team with health and behind the scenes problems and suffered quite a bit. he's a good player (not 60m but good enough to play for us) who will likely be much improved next season. we have players to offload but if anything's true it's that we do a decent job of offloading people. madueke i think looks very high potential and has been one of the few putting in effort, i think sterling had been very hit and miss but is one of the few players in attack who would actually drive at defences at times, and mudryk has clearly made the step up to this level too early but i'm not gonna call bust on after half a season. i also don't think we are desperate for a keeper aside from a good backup, mendy should go this summer but kepa has been one of the few players whose had a decent season, and we'd struggle to offload him obviously. we have slonina coming through who should be ready in two or three years.

I'd definitely have signed him up if his demands were more reasonable. He's a very useful player to have. and yeah Kepa is decent, I'd eventually like a more 'commanding' keeper to deal with crosses, but otherwise he's solid. honestly don't think it's that much of a priority this summer. All of the rumoured options don't fill me with huge confidence from what I can gather. Unlikely to be much of an upgrade.

We need a keeper, two central defenders, first choice left WB (if indeed we even keep with wingbacks after now signing three), at least one creative midfielder, at least two wide forwards, and a replacement for Kane if he leaves. Only position we're overstocked in is defensive mid...but none are quite world beaters. That is an insane amount of work and as Chelsea have found, changing ten or so players at once is risky.
