dreamo
I'm not sure if I'd call this a "micro-genre" or what, but this is a selection of emo/skramz with distinct elements of dream pop and/or "dreamy" qualities. These include echo-y clean guitars, reverb-y vocals, and a general enveloping quality beyond just thrashing it out. I've been really into this sound ever since I first heard I Wrote Haikus and I want to compile some stuff with similar qualities; recs welcome!! |

Emergency Numbers
Was revisiting this group today and thought about this list. Been wanting to make this for a while, and this album is one of the best examples of the sound I'm describing. Majority Rule was a really angry political skramz group with a strong emphasis on atmosphere over riffs, while still having some fucking sick angular riffs and screams. Their debut is more on the hardcore side while this one goes full dreamo.

Basically the first band that turned me onto this sound. Very naive and beautiful example of this sound, one of those records that truly feels like its own world, take it or leave it.

Pretty sure this was a user's album, but I can't remember who. Insanely beautiful mix of the aforementioned styles, one of the more texturally rich skramz albums I've heard.

Felt like this had the potential to be a modern classic of the genre when it came out. Gorgeous guitars underneath screams that sound like they're coming from another room; the way vocals in this genre should be mixed.

Band that played my house once. Equal parts Have a Nice Life and the emo bands that surrounded us at the time. Some members went on to do Kissies!

Think this may have actually inspired me to make this list. Their debut alluded to this sound a bit, but generally this new album pushes the dreamy elements to the forefront. Maybe that's just a sign of emo bands aging?
