11.29.21 | i'm not sure why but the covid lockdowns occurred during my turnaround. i ended up losing about 75 pounds and got in good shape, got out of homelessness, stopped the bad drugs and got back into college. i've never been a social person so the whole isolation thing never bothered me. times have been shitty but i think anybody can make a recovery |

11.29.21 | Hope you feel better soon. Personally, I have a pretty big OCD problem but I'm keeping it in control these last couple of years. That doesn't mean it doesn't come back with a vengeance occasionally, just to remind me it'll never really go away. But we have to grit our teeth and just weather it, with or without meds. 11.29.21 | it comes and it goes, but it never leaves.
I’ve been struggling with OCD my entire life, to the point where I ended up hospitalized for a bit. Every journey is unique and giving advice is hard because, in my experience, only the things I’ve decided work really do.
The only advice that I give that I think is truly universal is getting exercise. in fact, I’m in the gym doing squats right now. honestly working out might have saved my life.
Find what works for you and never let go. It does get better. |
Egarran
11.29.21 | Also shrooms |
Colton
11.29.21 | exercise is huge yeah. also diet. make sure you're getting enough healthy fats cause they have a huge effect on mood. and protein too. amino acids like tyrosine play a big role in dopamine production. and also just staying busy in general, doing things you like and try to never allow cognitive dissonance in your life cause that shit just feeds into itself and drags you down
I know this advice is largely trivial if you're clinically depressed but it helps |
Hyperion1001
11.29.21 | I wish I could try microdosing honestly but I’m on an SSRI right now and it’s working fairly well so I’m not gonna switch it up.

11.30.21 | It's normal feeling like shit in today's world. I won't elaborate on why because it's a pretty swampy topic but anyways I would recommend exercise, hiking and raw meat. That's what makes me feel human nowadays after several years of depression and purposelessness |
Egarran
11.30.21 | Surprised it took so long for a reaction to that |
Frost15
11.30.21 | I mean literally raw meat. It will be taboo in a few years (it's kind of already) because they want us to eat shit and ban meat altogether but good quality raw meat is great for mental health. Been eating raw meat everyday for two years now. I won't say anything else because it's all out there.
Also try to avoid refined sugar, caffeine and processed foods. It could be hard at first if it's the first time you do that but those are drugs that give you mood peaks and downs constantly |
Mythodea
11.30.21 | Exercise and diet can affect mood, but I think we're beyond moodiness here. You are welcome to change any habits you deem problematic, but simply believing that hitting the gym can make mental exhaustion go away sounds like trying to become better in math by sharpening your pencil |

11.30.21 | I also eat raw meat once a week wink wink
Sorry to hear man. I have been recently diagnosed with some mental health neurological disorders, and it's been a drag. what is helping me is rationalizing all the things that make me be self-destructive are deficits of my brain, and calm myself out via meditation, yoga, exercise, self-reflection, respect for myself, my boundaries, my energies, my feelings, etc. - routines are helpful, in any way to anybody neurotypical, divergente, you name it. there are things that are healthier for you. and I hope you can find them, and improve on your things. For myself, I know I cannot fix them and I can keep living and coping with them, now with a much clearer lens than the past. best of luck bud!

Colton
11.30.21 | there definitely are solutions for mental disorders, it just depends on the disorder and the person who has it |

Mythodea
11.30.21 | >why underplay the importance of exercise lol
Ι didn't mean to underplay its importance, I just wanted to give a frame to it. It happens to be the 1.01 advice lately everytime mental health is brought to the table and it's becoming tiring to see this idea reproducing, with something that might add to the burden instead of relieving it.
When I suffered from panic attacks, not too long ago, I started meditation and yoga, and that was helpful, but it wasn't the necessary step to take to face my problems. Keep in mind, I had already taken up running as a regular exercise for a whole year by then and panic attacks returned harsher. |
Colton
11.30.21 | every time there's a thread like this where ppl ask for advice, ppl give advice by saying you should exercise (which is proven to help a lot of people) and then people criticize the advice and say how tired they are of hearing it. it's like they want people to say "ah you're fucked, there's nothing you can do to get better sorry" |
Mythodea

11.30.21 | honestly really miss playing online games a lot, i just have never been able to afford to keep up with consoles or getting a pc that can handle gaming, so i mostly just go back and play like thug2 and stuff |
Frost15
11.30.21 | That's part of the problem man. Videogames are a escape (I was a hardcore gamer and came to the conclusion that videogames give a sense of purpose in a fictional world so in the long run they end up channeling your lack of purpose in the real world), imho this system makes people want to escape reality all the time because it doesn't give any sense of purpose and most of it is completely unnatural. Actually most people are depressed and don't know it. That's what happened to me. We take refuge in the legal drugs the system allows (alcohol, videogames, binge watching series...) It's a pretty deep topic but my experience tells me the most important thing is to reconnect yourself with nature and exercise is a very good way to do that. There are all kinds of situations though, some people are in terrible positions where they can't even reach nature or money to eat... In those cases I don't know what to say tbh. |
Trebor.
11.30.21 | Some escapism is fine lol |
BMDrummer
11.30.21 | i really love being outside, trust me. the issue is that i live in new england, and it's like 29 degrees on average where i am, so being outside this time of year is nearly impossible unfortunately. i've never been a gamer at all btw, honestly i find myself investing way too much time in things that are really heavy, and i think that makes it hard for me to really know what unwinding feels like. most of my time is spent reading and listening to music, and i wouldn't say i'm always into the most uplifting shit lol. just gotta know what's what, i guess. having fun can be really difficult. |
Frost15
11.30.21 | Sure, human creativity leads to escapism every now and then but nowadays it's madness. Remove alcohol, sugar and technology and most people would collapse mentally. Very few are able to stay with just themselves. We live in a crazy world. The metaverse is the next nail on the coffin. People will live in fiction more than in reality. Actually that is already happening and the metaverse will give a physical body for a next level experience... Now will the physical body tolerate that for a long time? I don't think so... |
Frost15
11.30.21 | I had to look where New England is since I'm from Europe and dang, it sure looks cold haha. Do you have a job currently? Do you have a good relationship with your family? It helps to have friends to talk to in person. I've always been kind of a loner but I managed to find 2 or 3 people akin to me and that always helps a lot. Don't worry about uplifting art, it's normal to channel negative thoughts and feels through dark music, I've done it since my teen years and I'm still doing it. The hard thing is to get out of that aswell, trying to find the light sometimes to balance the scale. Board games are cool if you are into that. Playing music also has always helped me... There are many factors to consider and in the end I'm a guy thousands of km away from you so words may help but remember you are the one who must "start the fire" there. |

11.30.21 | Sounds tough BMD. Keep trying seems like the way to go in these cases. Hang in there, keep the people you love close, and get through that rough patch eventually ✨ |

12.01.21 | "nah he's legit insane" 100% Agreed I am.
"You gotta explain where you're coming from cuz you are taking a wild leap with that advice and not really backing it up" As I stated it's a taboo topic and there is a lot of panic and alarm infunded by the media over it. I'll just say Okinawans in Japan (one of the longest living regions in the world) used to eat a lot of raw meat and fish. The ones who reached 100+ years ate a diet based on raw/fresh foods. Also I've met old people in small towns in my country that used to eat raw meat and eggs when they were young before Pasteur's germ theory started to spread like crazy in every developed country. Some of the oldest people ever revealed they consumed raw eggs throughout their whole life... Then you have wackos like Aajonus Vonderplanitz who ate nothing but raw meat, organs (sometimes even rotten), dairy, eggs and fruits and gave them pretty good results.
I would recommend starting with muscle meats only though. I started with them 3 years ago. Then raw eggs and nowadays I consume raw liver (once a week), brains (once a month), dairy, butter almost on a daily basis. Fun fact, the only time I got food poisoning was during a travel where I couldn't eat raw meat for a week and went to a chinese restaurant. I got some type of worm and I followed an ancient method for removing it, which consists of eating raw meat with raw onions for two days. It worked like a charm. Parasites may actually be not that dangerous and sometimes even beneficial. We all have parasites and bacteria inside. You can look up in the web info about this. Some researchers are publishing works lately stating that parasites could actually help against many diseases. After reading a lot about it I decided to give it a try and for 2 years I have been feeling great on this diet tbh.
The most important thing for raw meat is getting a good quality source, since if you eat sick animals you will get sick. And that's crucially important for organ meats. If you feel good and have no health problems on a cooked food diet don't change though. If something is working for you there is no need to change it. |
Egarran
12.01.21 | That will engender a fruitful discussion.
>Aajonus Vonderplanitz
That's a great name though. |
Hyperion1001
12.01.21 | i just want to know what exactly raw meat contains that cooked meat doesn’t, other than parasites and bacteria. |
LunaticSoul
12.01.21 | raw food as in veggies has a lot of sense in being eaten raw.
Raw meat is usually eaten here as tartare, with also raw eggs. like it won´t kill you lol, but seems a lot of joojoo and I don´t think it matches with any of the mental health thing.
to the guy that said "mental health disorders" can be treated, a solid "LOL" from someone with a neurological deficit that "can be cured" by feeding myself methanphetamines and then having a shedload of other issues to cover. |
Frost15
12.01.21 | Theoretically raw meat has more enzymes and bioavailability of nutrients since cooking always reduce that to a certain degree. It's a very dense topic with many different positions but I personally digest raw meat way better than anything else (apart from raw eggs). I'm not the only one who experienced this. |
Hyperion1001
12.01.21 | idk man seems like getting salmonella would be pretty bad for my mental health lol |
Frost15
12.01.21 | Serious damage by salmonella is very rare actually and like 98% of salmonella infections come from cooked or slightly cooked food. Aajonus Vonderplanitz argued that bacteria in cooked meat and eggs grew as much as sixty times higher than in raw food since he believed that bacteria and parasites fed on waste products, dead and unhealthy cells and waste products from cooked food is 10-100 times more toxic than on raw food. In fact for centuries the chinese have been consuming eggs that were very old to increase health and stamina. Right now there are studies using Salmonella to treat tumors (cancerous cells), something which Aajonus always stood by. Anyway raw meat that has high count of bacteria normally stinks, so if you were afraid of that you could always discard smelly stinky meat haha. I myself have eaten "high meat" (rotten) 2 times and it was a crazy experience for sure, I kind of liked it but it's definitely not for everyone. |
Hyperion1001
12.01.21 | idk man, whatever works for you I guess, but I only eat chicken and there ain’t a snowballs chance in hell im eating that raw. |

Trebor.
12.01.21 | The human brain drastically improved after we started cooking our food, including meat obv |
Frost15
12.01.21 | That's a plausible theory championed by a vegetarian scientist. Not saying it's not true but there could be a confirmation bias there. I'm more inclined to think that what made the bigger difference wasn't just cooking but fire itself, allowing us to keep extra calories. Fire made humans feel safe and warm, so they could relax (less stress) by the fire and keep a calories surplus for a long time. Cold used to make us burn a lot of calories. Of course being able to cook vegetables and grains when meat was not available allowed us to eat way more food but I still think meat is king, specially raw. Maybe someday I change my opinion who knows... I was a strict vegan for almost 7 years and I used to think it was a very good diet until all kind of health problems started to arise when I was 3 and a half years in so... |
Colton
12.01.21 | frost can you identify a single nutrient inside raw meat that is tied to neurological benefits of any kind? can you actually provide a tangible reason for why you think raw meat is beneficial outside of mentioning certain populations that have a high life expectancy while eating raw meat, which could be attributed to an infinite number of unrelated factors? |
Trebor.

12.01.21 | I don't eat meat anyway, but I'd never fuck with raw milk |
Frost15
12.01.21 | Well, it does has benefits digestive wise because of the enzymes not being destroyed. The research done on raw meat over cooked meat is scarce but some have argued that some vitamins are lost or severely diminished during the cooking process. I read a lot about the topic after having several problems during my life (that aggravated after veganism). As I stated before I have experienced a huge digestive boost when eating raw meat. Carpaccio and steak tartare give me 0 gas issues and I regained a lot of muscle fast and easy. Apparently some people have genetic predisposition to digest cooked food just as good, but I've met several people that prefered raw meat by a wide margin. It's not for everyone I guess, specially since we are told how supposedly dangerous it is and all that stuff, but the fact is that a lot of tribes and cultures ate/eat raw meat/fish during their whole history. This is a nice read for anyone curious:
https://food-hacks.wonderhowto.com/how-to/why-you-should-start-eating-raw-meat-or-eat-more-it-0163405/
But back to the topic at hand I hope our OP is doing alright. Staying in contact with healthy/positive people is very important. Not fake happiness but the one that comes from inner peace. You don't find many people like that though... Keep friends close and try having goals. Growing your own plants and stuff like that is awesome. |

12.01.21 | Do you think your relationship with raw meat is based entirely off your dissatisfaction and problems with veganism? What was causing these issues and did you reach out to dieticians? What side effects have you found with eating raw meat? |
Frost15
12.01.21 | I don't want to turn this post into my personal story but let's say my bad experience with veganism made me lose all fear and definitely played a role in me experimenting with raw meat. I had different problems as a child and I always suspected food had to do with some of them so once I became emancipated I started to read a lot about diets and food in general and experimented with different approaches. Ethics was what really brought me to veganism after visiting some industrial farms. I still hold a huge respect for the animals so I look for meat raised in the best conditions.
