I Suppose I Modernized?
Not really though. All of April and May, I only checked albums from 2010-2019. Yeah... |
1 | | Kishi Bashi Lighght
(2014)
This wasn't my thing at all. It was colorful and psychedelic in spots, but it just didn't click. Too much pop and not enough psych I guess? I remember it being pretty predictable or whatever.

2 | | Melt-Banana Fetch
(2013)
Super fun, energetic, odd, and memorable. Fuck, I peaked early with this.
4.5/5 |
3 | | Submotion Orchestra Finest Hour
(2011)
Trip-hoppy with a lot of cool percussion. The lead singer's voice was super soulful too, which was a nice touch.

4 | | Yves Tumor Safe in the Hands of Love
(2018)
"Weird" pop that mostly bored me.
2.5/5 |
5 | | Jenny Hval Innocence Is Kinky
(2013)
Weird indie rock/folky stuff that gave me heavy PJ Harvey vibes while also being unique in its own right.
4/5 |
6 | | Goat World Music
(2012)
Modern psych rock that mixes itself with what worldbeat is (dancy music that incorporates non-Western folk I guess? Seems like a Eurocentric as fuck term, but yeah.)
4/5 |
7 | | Jukka Nousiainen Jukka Nousiainen
(2016)
Psych country. Nothing here was too engaging, but it wasn't bad. Background music?
3/5 |
8 | | L7 Scatter The Rats
(2019)
I was gonna check this no matter what since I love L7. This lacks the badass fun type tracks I love when it comes to L7. They sound tired here. Still some jams though.
3/5 |
9 | | Erykah Badu New Amerykah Part Two: Return of the Ankh
(2010)
I loved Part One A LOT, and this was actually pretty great too. It's a lot more personal and less daring, but incredibly memorable.
4/5 |
10 | | Holly Herndon PROTO
(2019)
Holy mother of gimmick. AI helping to compose music on a commercial release? That's so innovative. With that said the album itself is a bit patchy. When it's good, it's amazing though.
3.5/5 |
11 | | Foxygen Take The Kids Off Broadway
(2011)
A lot bluesier than I expected. A lot of the tracks gave me Mick Jagger vibes, but way more chaotic musically. Way crazier than their more famous 2013 album.
4/5 |
12 | | Dirty Projectors/Bjork Mount Wittenberg Orca
(2010)
I already like Dirty Projects and Bjork, so this was a match made in heaven. The obnoxiously fun, yet still beautiful harmonies of Coffman and Deradoorian fit perfectly with Bjork's powerful howls.
4/5 |
13 | | Vulfpeck Thrill of the Arts
(2015)
Most of this was technically impressive and would make for good dance music, but I didn't feel too engaged by most of it outside of those factors. Funk/jazz fusion/r&b etc.
