“The Book of Love has music in it. In fact, that’s where music comes from.” - Stephin Merritt ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Love is in the air!! Welcome to February’s edition of the song of the day thread, hosted by noler, the one and only bowler. This month, you will be recommending 💞love💞songs💞 to your lovely friends on sputnik dot com. The only stipulation is your choice MUST NOT be strictly romantic. I’m looking for songs on the concept of love, or feelings associated with love, but not “A Whole New World.” There is an argument to be made that all music features some form of love or intimacy. So, the direction you take this prompt is up to you. Will your rec be about lost love? Lack of love? Forgotten love? Forbidden love? It doesn’t have to be so negative you know... it can be about passion, nostalgia, family, any topic that you can tie in to the concept of 💕luv💕, without it being a traditional display of romance. So what song should we listen to?? I’d LOVE to know !! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yo9Aj7t1IZwG41xFgX9kzIugIsVckENq5RnQace1WDw/edit?usp=sharing
1Jeff Williams
RWBY Volume 2 Soundtrack

NOLERTHEBOWLER
Jeff Williams feat. Casey Lee Williams
“Boop”

My brother showed me this a month ago.. it’s from a show I wouldn’t touch with a 10-foot-pole (even though rooster teeth is pretty cool), but the soundtrack is imbued with some musical magic that makes it brilliantly shine. The majestic trumpets, playful bass line, and care-free vocals intertwine in a power-pop orchestra fit for the Fox Theater, not just a laptop screen.

In this song, the vocalist notices she is falling in love, but she is shy, so instead of saying I love you, she breaks out into a funky song and dance number.

PORCUPINETHEATER
Abner Jay
"I'm So Depressed"

Bitingly funny hangdog tune in that way only Abner Jay can pull off. Song's about love as an innate part of being alive, for better or worse. Best blues song ever?

"Train Song"

Imagine 100 years ago, going on a train for days or weeks on end, just to chase after someone you loved. Things are rocky between the two of you. Do they still care about you? How would they react to seeing you? You don't know the answers, in fact, this entire journey may all be for naught. But nevertheless, you don't turn your back. You take that chance anyway. Why? Because it's worth it. It's worth it because you were once in love. And perhaps still are?

Super soothing track with a perfectly warm and fuzzy sound. Fell in love with this one because of the sepia colours and that incredible build throughout its entire runtime. Oh yeah, and it's about love, it's about letting go.

"Untouchable Pt. 1"

The song's about learning to let go of love and moving on. It’s a final statement of love, blessing somebody and moving past that, but still stating how beautiful your feelings are.

Apparently. Somehow I've always interpreted it as a love letter to a recently deceased.

"Love's Enough"

the love in question here is more a matter of consequence, storytelling device. most romanticism and passion is done (in my view) by the atmosphere and instrumentals

"Late"

This song has been hitting hard recently. It was written about Folds having an appreciation for Elliott Smith's music but never having a chance to tell him because of his untimely death. Both artists are legends and big inspirations to me. I feel like this song fits for any of our favorite artists that have passed from this earth. Although it could be taken as solemn on first look, I find myself having a warm feeling the more I listen to this track. I suppose you could call it bittersweet.

"Royal Screw Up"

Song talks about how the narrator believed a relationship would solve all her deep-seated issues, when actually both of them just ended up getting hurt. It's pretty brutally confessional. Love the way the lines run into one another.

BRAINMELTER

“Dark Flowers”

Not a traditional love song by any means, hell, you’d even think it’s strange to call this a love song but it radiates deep admiration in a really tragic and sincere way. It goes beyond the pain of a broken heart.. it manages to be equally pretty and morbid.
