Most played in 2018
Best of? Not really, that generally takes me a year or so to sort out fully. These are just some things released in '18 that I found myself listening to a lot. The order is somewhat arbitrary. |
1 | | Violet Cold Sommermorgen (Pt. II) Joy
I listened to Mr. Guliyev's entire work at least 20 times since it was released, but I enjoyed the middle section the best. |
2 | | Eneferens The Bleakness Of Our Constant
Post/atmo-black metal caught and held my attention last year. The guy's music is just incredible. |
3 | | Voivod The Wake
Still digesting this album. I've been a huge fan since Killing Technology was their current record...I'm really liking what Mr. Mongrain has done. |
4 | | Shylmagoghnar Transience
Never blew me away, but kept calling me back. |
5 | | Amorphis Queen of Time
Always liked Amorphis' music, apart from the odd lame album here and there. This record easily stands with my favorites (Elegy and Skyforger, to be specific). |
6 | | Panopticon The Scars of Man on the Once Nameless Wilderness
How Mr. Lunn keeps upping the bar is astounding. |
7 | | Sojourner The Shadowed Road
Another album that didn't blow me away, but kept inviting me to listen again. Serious, lovely, engaging, classy. |
8 | | Gorod Aethra
Gorod never disappoints. |
9 | | Beach House 7
First heard them on their Depression Cherry album a few years ago. Liked it right away. |
10 | | Paara Riitti
Riveting melodies, powerful vocals. |
11 | | Sylvaine Atoms Aligned, Coming Undone
Not just a female-fronted band. Katherine Shepard writes, sings and plays everything. Beautifully. (Yeah, session drummers on this album, I know.) |
12 | | Spurv Myra
Yeah, another post-whatever outfit. And a highly talented one at that. |
