OPETH!
10Opeth
Deliverance

Considered their heaviest album to date, but heavier doesn't necessarily mean
better. Feels like a slightly more over-produced version of their first album, riffs
aren't amazing and the lengthier songs tend to be very repetitious.
9Opeth
Orchid

This definitely showcases a great deal of potential, but it doesn't hold up as well as
other d?but albums. Some of the tracks are awfully long and much like Deliverance,
it becomes monotonous. The sound on the other hand is a unique mash numerous
styles (Prog, Black Metal, Death Metal) and creates a dark, surreal atmosphere.
8Opeth
Heritage

People who are familiar with Akerfeldt's love for 70's Prog and are more open-
minded would most likely enjoy Heritage, or at least appreciate it, whereas fans
who have more of an interest in the extreme element of Opeth's music more than
likely won't. Though it has its flaws, this ambitious and indulgent album showcases
even more diversity in Opeth's catalogue. It takes a few listens to fully appreciate.
7Opeth
My Arms, Your Hearse

Not much really needs to be said. It was a great note to end on with their first
label, Candlelight, and tracks such as "When" and "Demon Of The Fall" are Opeth
classics.
6Opeth
Watershed

This was an indication that Opeth's sound was morphing into something drastically
different, combining some of the brutality from previous albums and the clean
approach that would be heard on Heritage. A solid effort, no doubt, and "Hessian
Peel" is an absolute monster.
5Opeth
Blackwater Park

WHY ISN'T THIS NUMBER ONE? Though I do think it's a fantastic album, the songs
in the middle of the album don't possess the same amount of majesty found on the
first three tracks and the closer. Their first album produced by the master himself
Steven Wilson is produced almost flawlessly. If you're an Opeth virgin, this is
certainly the album to listen to first.
4Opeth
Ghost Reveries

This was my introduction to Opeth and is the first album on this list that is very
consistent from top to bottom. A number of outstanding tracks, superb production
and expert song-writing and innovation make this one of the best records of the
2000's, which makes it all the more surprising that it isn't placed higher.
3Opeth
Damnation

At the time, this was a very radical change in Opeth's music and may have raised
many eyebrows. It was the first album to explore non-heavy metal-based song-
writing and boy, did they pull it off. Every track is masterfully well written and
performed and if anything, the musicianship was an improvement over what they
had produced previously, especially considering the disappointing Deliverance from
the previous year.
2Opeth
Morningrise

Opeth decided to record even longer songs for their d?but follow-up, which was
audacious, but the difference was that this was far more guided and well performed
than Orchid. The songs create more of a sickening atmospheric touch to them, the
riffs are far more memorable and there is very little repetition. How can you not get
goosebumps from the acoustic harmonies of "To Bid You Farewell" or the sheer
heaviness of the 20+ minute epic "Black Rose Immortal"? Every track is outstanding.

Still Life

What can be said about Still Life that hasn't been stated so many times already?
Interesting and unique concept, masterful and diverse musicianship, dynamic song-
structures and the more frequent use of amazing clean vocals are just some of the
reason why this is Opeth's magnum opus, and one of the greatest albums of all
time. The end.
