Ben's favorites from 2017
1The Obsessed
Sacred

Imo the best album by The Obsessed.
2Death Rides a Horse
More God Than Man

This year's biggest surprise for me. This Danish (My home country) band has been around for some years in the Copenhagen underground scene, but are almost a secret to most metalheads from the area. MGTM is one helluva cool album with the sweetest production and with a singer in the vein of Leather Leone. They are categorized as epic doom but there's not a whole lot of slow riffs here. This is the purest form of heavy metal!
3Epitaph (ITA)
Claws

One of the best Italian doom bands. They started out as Black Hole in the 80s and released the cult album Land of Mystery. Soon after they split up and the guitarist and drummer founded Epitaph in the late 80s. In 2014 they released their great debut and now they have released their finest record in the form of Claws. If you like Saint Vitus, Black Hole and the Italian doom darling Paul Chain you should check this one out.
4The Savage Rose
Homeless

Annisette Koppel is 69 years old and still the most impressive voice in Denmark. She only gets better with age. In her voice you can hear all the pain, love, happiness and sorrow she has gone through. It reminds me a bit of Lady in Satin by Billie Holiday.
5Poobah
Blue Poobah

The guitar wizard Jim Gustafson has released several cult albums since the early 70s and surprises again with a bluesy, heavy, gimmicky and psychedelic album.
6With the Dead
Love from With the Dead

This year's heaviest record!
7Black Country Communion
BCCIV

Not as good as the debut and Afterglow but still a great release with one of my favorite singers.... Glenn Hughes "The Voice of Rock"
8Bathsheba
Servus

Really good doom album. Michelle Nocon off Death Penalty impresses with her soulful and demonic vocals.
9The Doomsday Kingdom
The Doomsday Kingdom

Heavier than Candlemass anno 2017
10Venom Inc.
