Top 10 Manchester Orchestra Songs

I know half of you here will absolutely hate my opinion but fuck it. Feel free to share your top 10 or top 5 or top 1 in the comments! HONOURABLE MENTIONS include: Simple Math, Virgin, Sleeper 1972, Wolves At Night, Where Have You Been, The Moth, All That I Really Wanted (HOPE version), & Shake It Out.
10Manchester Orchestra
Fourteen Years Of Excellence

It's Ok With Me - This little Andy Hull solo number probably shouldn't rank among their best material ever but it's just always clicked so well with me. It's so beautiful and charming and I love the shit out of it, plus Andy's melodies are just wonderful here.
9Manchester Orchestra
Simple Math

Apprehension - What I would consider probably the most underrated track off Simple Math. Fucking love this song and in my opinion actually presents a very good argument for being one of the saddest songs by a band that is very often super sad.
8Manchester Orchestra
Cope

Cope - The only track off COPE that could ever make it this high lol. Such a fucking killer tune though. If COPE was an album of 11 versions of the same song, the title-track is the poster-child archetype of that song. Far and away the best track on the record.
7Manchester Orchestra
A Black Mile to the Surface

The Gold - The perfect lead single for this record and still holds every ounce of its beauty a year after release. Some gut-punch lyrics in here as well that I love. "I don't wanna be me anymore"
6Manchester Orchestra
Mean Everything to Nothing

I Can Feel A Hot One - Such beauty. Much sad. Classic track. That cello in the background always hits me.
5Manchester Orchestra
Mean Everything to Nothing

Everything To Nothing - Another song that I feel is underrated in the context of its parent album. Definitely my favourite track on METN. Love the guitar riff in the verse and the breakdown, build-up, and climax as the song draws to a close. So fucking awesome.
4Manchester Orchestra
A Black Mile to the Surface

The Alien - This song takes my vote for Andy's best lyrical storytelling. I remember when this track first came out as a single my girlfriend and I listening on repeat and pining over the lyrics and piecing the story together and once it all clicked we were like "jesus.. wtf Andy". The narrative here is so crazy and the way the melodies+harmonies bring it all together for each chorus still floors me.
3Manchester Orchestra
A Black Mile to the Surface

The Silence - Perhaps their biggest song ever, sonically. Such a massive sound on the tail end of this track and Andy's heart wrenching stanzas in the climax destroy me.
Not much I can say about this track that hasn't already been said, an instant classic and a definite front-runner for the best MO song.
2Manchester Orchestra
Simple Math

Pale Black Eye - I fucking LOVE the way this track turns from a boppin' indie rock track into a crushing confessional. Listening to that funky drum beat and sweet little guitar riff that brings the track in, you would never in a million years guess the song goes to the dark places it does. And it transitions so perfectly its ridiculous. Once that bridge hits I'm completely glued. "God damn I'm tired of lying: I wish I loved you like I used to." Like, fuck the balls it takes to write & sing a line like that. AND THEN THE ENDING! JESUS TIT THAT ENDING! WOO!
1Manchester Orchestra
I'm Like a Virgin Losing a Child

I Can Barely Breathe - Has always been my personal favourite MO song and I don't suppose that'll change anytime soon. Just such a perfect track to me and some of the lines here still give me goosebumps when they hit. "Because if seeing is believing, then believe that we have lost our eyes" and "If you knew I was dying would it change you?" top the list.
