Album cover reminds of an Impetuous Ritual album cover, this is like 15 minutes of grinding no-fucks given death metal. Full-length when?
17Japanese Breakfast
Jubilee

indie pop
This was easily my summer album of 2021, it being so fun and warm it begged to be played over and over for any occasion and that last track is one of the years best, period. I played this album endlessly in the month of June at gatherings with friends and on a couple of road trips. a couple of my friends are now certified JB fans some of them even getting merch themselves to sport. Random little tid-bit, but when my friend asked what was playing she saw the album cover and to her and my surprise recognized it, as she is friends with a photographer that helped decorate the set they took the album picture on. To be specific, her friend brought the persimmons.. small world eh? I mean I live in LA and the picture was taken in LA so not that far-fetched I guess..

8Palsied
Certain Death Austerities

wonky death metal
7Rx Nephew
Slitherman Activated

hip-hop / experimental
while obviously polarizing, the album goes harder than most and is absurdly fun too. This guy puts out like 2 or more albums a month, and while being a relatively new artist, he has 20 + releases under his belt already. There’s nobody as raw as neph right now and anyone that’s willing to spit bars over a beat like Beam On Your Toes gets two big thumbs up from me. Oh and Make Drunk Cool Again is superb as well but for the list’s sake, one album per artist
6Sunless
Ylem

death metal
5Flaming Ouroboros
Uphold the Majesty

raw black metal
I have a super soft spot for this and my ranking might not be warranted per se but it occupies a similar space to a band like Vothana, which I’m crazy for. This band revels in obscurity though this album has made quite the splash and for anyone paying attention knows this is some special stuff. Raw black metal that feels triumphant and actually kind of hopeful in a way. I’ve spun this numerous times this year and can’t wait to hear where they go next
4Vothana
Hành Động Bây Giờ, Tương Lai Đảm Bảo / Action Now,

raw black metal
😘
3Ustalost
Before The Glinting Spell Unvests

black metal
Quenching my thirst for a new Yellow Eyes album, Ustalost’s very late in the year release won me over immediately. The album (similarly to YE) hits that sweet spot between wicked and tragic and is surprisingly nuanced for what is. The inclusion of synths and Gregorian chants all over this feel real good. Can’t get enough of this, and until we get a follow up to Rare Field Ceiling this will definitely hold me over.
2Skee Mask
Pool

electronic etc
1Ad Nauseam
Imperative Imperceptible Impulse

avant-garde death metal / perfection
