Opeth Albums Ranked
This band is impossible to rank. Huge discog and insanely consistent. I know there are some die-hard camps for certain albums so go easy on my otherwise uncompromising opinions. Enjoy! |
12 | | Opeth Orchid
Honestly have not listened to this in full. |
11 | | Opeth Sorceress
I wanted to like this a lot so badly, I even have an alternate track listing that I enjoy listening to way more than the original. But jeez it's such a confusing direction they went in with this. Decent either way. |
10 | | Opeth Morningrise
Again can't say I've given more than one solid listen. There's a reason Mikeal isn't as fond of this record and I can see why, but it has some epic and enjoyable moments. Important part of their growth, and all dat. |
9 | | Opeth Deliverance
I struggle with this one because I absolutely love the t/t, but the album is just a chore to sit through. MA rules as well. |
8 | | Opeth Pale Communion
This manages to be so HEAVY without conforming to a stereotypical metal sound. Some dull songs but otherwise sweet album. |
7 | | Opeth My Arms, Your Hearse
Contains a lot of the blueprints for what would be part of the staple Opeth sound and is super impressive on top of that. First Opeth album that I think was a little more fully realized and well-developed imo. |
6 | | Opeth Watershed
Always a super fun listen. Careful experimentation with the metal sound and it made something very unique for Opeth at the time. |
5 | | Opeth Blackwater Park
Probably their best sounding record production wise. I really only come back to this for Leper and Bleak though. |
4 | | Opeth Heritage
Minimalism done right, insanely beautiful and genuine sounding where PC and Sorc seemed to lose me. |
3 | | Opeth Still Life
Bookends for dayz, The Moor is top 10 Opeth and Serenity -> White Cluster is easily the best 2 song run of any Opeth album. Everything in the middle also slaps. |
2 | | Opeth Ghost Reveries
Some days this is my #1. Perfect sequencing, atmosphere, and songwriting. Maybe only a tad long but I don't notice because I'm usually enjoying every second. |
1 | | Opeth Damnation
... but take all of that perfection and make it even more beautiful with an impressive simplicity that's hardly ever replicated quite like this. I've probably listened to Windowpane and Death Whispered a Lullaby 100 times each. The closest thing in Opeth's discography to being a perfect album. |
