St. Vincent Ranked

Probably has the most potential to drop something absolutely groundbreaking but always ends up with something quite less than perfect. Albeit, still some sick stuff. Ranking is always changing but here it is for now:
5St. Vincent
Marry Me

I haven't given these first two much more than a listen or two. Annie's debut has merit for being freaking ambitious from the get go, albeit with a more standard indie sound to a lot of it. It's clear there was a lot of maturing to do compositionally and melodically.

Fav tracks: Now, Now, Paris Is Burning
4St. Vincent
Strange Mercy

This has a few of Annie's best written songs ever (Surgeon, Cruel, title track) but for me personally gets stopped in its tracks and bogged down by some honestly pretty glossy and boring cuts. Again, I haven't given this much more than a single listen so I may be slightly biased.

Fav tracks: Cruel, Surgeon, Strange Mercy, Year of the Tiger
3St. Vincent
MASSEDUCTION

If the second half was anything like the first half this would be #1 for me. She executes a blend between electronic pop and progressive compositions so well for the first 6 tracks, and she feels really comfortable with the beat and layer-focused song structures. The conceptual-like progression of the first half is one of the best things she has done. I just wish the second half didn't fall back into so many popular tropes and was a little more fleshed out.

Fav Tracks: Pills, Sugarboy, Los Ageless, HBD Johnny
2St. Vincent
St. Vincent

Very stripped back and refined, yet features some of Annie's strangest harmonic progressions. It's probably the sense of maturity and rebirth that gives this album a very powerful and sincere nature to it. Probably also her most consistent release.

Fav tracks: Huey Newton, Digital Witness, Regret, Severed Crossed Fingers
1St. Vincent
Actor

This thing is whimsical, magical, and mysterious. Manages to be light as a feather and heavily textured at the same time. Not all of the juxtapositions between distorted-strangeness and elegant instrumentations are executed incredibly well, but it's unique enough to intrigue and captivate. Not perfect, but definitely transports you to a different world.

Fav tracks: Everything except the first two tracks
