04.25.12 My favorite Albums

My favorite Albums

Here are my top eight albums. Waiting for elitist sputnik dbags to tear it apart.
1Avenged Sevenfold
City of Evil

Avenged Sevenfold is one of my favorite bands. If I were a gay man and their first three albums were Christian Bale, I would blow each and every one of them. Perhaps even swallow. While their self-titled was mostly a jumbled mess and Nightmare was a catchy, slightly heavier return to form, I believe City of Evil to be one of the best albums of all-time. Now, it should be fairly obvious with this being a 'list' on sputnik that City of Evil being the greatest album of all-time is just MY OPINION.
I know nerds on here will bash me for this and try to pressure me into admitting that Opeth's Blackwater Park or some shitty album by radiohead or the Beatles is actually the best, but I don't care.
For me, City of Evil is the perfect balance of speed, power, and even a little bit of thrash. A lot of people would rather shoot themselves in the head than listen to M. Shadows' nasally voice and the "over produced" production on this album. Guns N' Roses is one of my favorite bands, and I love Use Your Illusions 1 and 2. So that might help to explain my overwhelming love for City of Evil. Whenever I listen to this album, I rarely ever skip a track and just listen to the whole damn thing straight through. From the heavy awesomeness that is Trashed and Scattered to the over the top, bombastic ass kicker The Wicked End - everything about this album just screams classic to me. Booyakasha.
2Queen
Queen II

Don't get me wrong, I love the super cheesy, super synthy sounds of later Queen that most people know of. Who Wants to Live Forever and Princes of the Universe make me fucking giddy every time I hear them. All I wanna do is just get a sword and chop off Clancy Brown's head.
Queen II, however, while still having some well placed cheese, is just one of the best damn albums of all-time. White Queen, March of the Black Queen, Seven Seas of Rhye, and Father to Son are all masterpieces. While those are the standouts for me, every other song also kicks ass in its own way. I'm so sick of reading top 500 album lists by Rolling Stones and other publications that refuse to put this album in the top ten. It's fucking ridiculous. Fuck you Rolling Stones.
Fuck you.
3Anterior
This Age of Silence

Holy shit. This has to be one of, if not THE best debut by a band ever. Every song on this album is a keeper and they all blend so seemlessly together than you will rarely ever find me skipping a track. Sometimes that's a bad thing, but each song still manages to stand out on its own merits.
The Silent Divide is the definition of an aural raping. Although, can it be still considered rape if the victim is so willing? Discuss.
Every song that follows is just as badass, and if you don't agree with me then you're a pussy.
Too bad this band broke up, as I think they could have become one of the greatest speed metal bands of all-time. While their second album was just mediocre, I think they could have turned it around in subsequent releases.
4Avenged Sevenfold
Waking the Fallen

OH NOEZZZ! NOT ANOTHAR AVANGED 7FOLD ALBEMS!!!
Yes, you read that right. It's another goddamn Avenged Sevenfold album. Waking the Fallen was the first A7X (I don't care if you hate this abbreviation. Fuck you.) album I listened to. And get this - I first heard of it because Chapter Four was on a Madden NFL soundtrack and I bought WTF (again, fuck you.) from Hot Topic!!!! I'm so metal it is ridiculous.
But hot damn, I love almost everything about this album. From the non-nasally clean vocals of M. Shadows to his high-pitched screams that make you want to stab Mudvaynian (Josh D.) in the face with a letter opener - this album is one orgasmic song after another. Unholy Confessions is probably the most popular song off this album, and it's also one of the best. Chapter Four is always a must listen and the beginning of Eternal Rest is one of the greatest blasts of pure thrash ever put on record. Second Heartbeat is another classic, and then of course we get to the end all be all of classics - I Won't See You Tonight Part 1.
My dear holy Moses - this is perhaps my favorite song ever. Everything about it gives me goosebumps. The emotive vocals, the howling guitars, the dark, depressing lyrics. I'm not ashamed to say that seeing A7X perform this song live is one of the greatest experiences of my life.
Holy shit. Balls.
5 Himsa
Courting Tragedy and Disaster

Himsa is the greatest live band I have ever seen . Sure, they weren't the best sounding band, and they had little to no stage production, but goddamn the passion and intensity that comes through in their performance is just unmatched.
Pettibone hangs over the audience and sticks the mic practically down the fans' throats as he lets them scream the choruses of fan favorites from Courting Tragedy and Disaster like The Girl in Glass and Dominion.
Since Himsa almost always played in small clubs around the world, their shows always had an intimate feeling to them that you can't get with a lot of bigger bands filling up arenas.
Now, I know what I've written here hasn't really addressed this album, but I just can't manage to talk about Himsa without raving about their live show. While a lot of posters on here seem to favor their latest albums, Courting Tragedy and Disaster will always be my personal favorite. It was the first album I heard from them and one of the first metal bands I ever got into that had ZERO clean vocals. A lot of people say that their last two albums were more "metal," while this album has more metalcore influences. While that may be true in the riffs and such, I still think that this is one of the thrashiest/metal albums to ever be release. I really, really, really wish they would get back together.
6SikTh
Death of a Dead Day

Everyone always praises SikTh for being one of the originators in the djent genre. I could barely give two shits about that, however, as this album is just so damn quirky from beginning to end. While they sound nothing like Queen at all, SikTh for me are the equivalent of Queen in the metal genre. They're just so crazy and out there, while still retaining relatively good song structure.
There's a good mixture of soft to heavy on this album, with some songs starting out as a ballad and then switching to a chaotic, schizophrenic mess by the end. There's isn't a song on this album that deserves to be skipped. Track 7 is a welcome/bizarre break from the chaos as the vocalists take turns screaming and groaning about mermaids or whatever shit these crazy bastards come up with. The last two songs, Another Sinking Ship and As the Earth Spins Around are the two most perfect songs to end the album, as the manic symphony that is SikTh comes to a satisfying end.
I was so damn bummed when the two vocalists left and the band broke up. Thank god they've decided to get back together sometime in the future and have another go at it. Hopefully Mikee and Justin will come back as well.
7Between the Buried and Me
Colors

The greatest prog album ever.
That is all.
8All Shall Perish
The Price of Existence

Call them deathcore all you want, no one can deny that on The Price of Existence, All Shall Perish deliver some of the heaviest, yet catchiest extreme metal out there. The thing that stands out most for me about this band is the vocalist. Their first album - Hate. Malice. Revenge. is one of the bigegst pieces of garbage I have ever heard. I attribute 100% of the fault to the vocalist. As soon as they Hermida joined the band, they went up to 11 in terms of awesomeness, as opposed to being just about a 2 in crappiness.
I'm not gonna talk about the tracks here. Partly because every song kicks about the same amount of ass, but also because I underestimated how much effort it takes to create a top ten list. So yeah... this is now turning into a Top 8 album.
