03.31.12 | Koloss, Utilitarian and The Electric Age were probably my most enjoyable week jams.
Yours? |
JamieTwort
03.31.12 | Nice list dude.
A couple of my first-time jams from this week:
Anacrusis - Reason and Suffering Hour
Thought Industry - Songs For Insects and Mods Carve the Pig |
TheNotrap
03.31.12 | Thanks JT, if you wish check The Electric Age, their best since Horrorscope IMO. If you don't know Wiped Out don't miss it.
Riff you need to feed your love for Utilitarian. |
JamieTwort
03.31.12 | Yeah I definitely need to check out The Electric Age. I think I've listened to Wiped Out a long time ago, I need to listen to it again. |
TheNotrap
03.31.12 | btw I had Suffering Hour on vinyl, cool stuff specially Present Tense. |

03.31.12 | @ TheNotrap
You should really reconsider about 15, it is a landmark in '90s power/prog metal |
TheNotrap
03.31.12 | Well it has some cool moments, but it's far from being a power/prog landmark in my humble opinion.
Their best period is between The Hall Of The Mountain King and Edge Of Thorns.

03.31.12 | 5 kicks major ass.
I currently enjoy Crippled Black Phoenix a lot. It's a modern space rock band with evident Pink Floyd influence, not in a rip off way. Band is my new drug.

Cheers bud. Neal Morse's jamming it's your fault ;) Very interesting album indeed. Will check those link gems right now.
@MetallicOpeth
Thanks man. Btw what's your thoughts about Koloss? I never was a fan but their last blew me away. Tomas Haake is a terrific drummer.
@Rock
I listen to music at work. Also my drive from home to the office takes 1h, so....jamming all the time.
I'm addicted to music...
@KJ
Some great jammings. Need to check that Michael Lee Firkins album.
Keep proggin Tarkus.
Monotheist was my friday jam...Was really impressed, great album. My favourite track at the moment is Obscured

TheNotrap
03.31.12 | Hey I'm listening Crippled Black Phoenix - Troublemaker
Very cool stuff indeed. Floyd oriented songwriting, so great stuff ;-) |
TheNotrap
03.31.12 | I, Vigilante is their best? |
RunOfTheMill
03.31.12 | I haven't heard any of these. Fuck.
I had totally forgotten Unisonic was out already. |
TheNotrap
03.31.12 | ^
Yeah Unisonic's debut is cool. "Souls Alive" at the moment is my favourite track.
I know you love classic metal, so don't miss Raven's Wiped Out. If you wish check also Samson's Head On (the first Bruce Dickinson band). Essential NWOBHM stuff. |
rockandmetaljunkie
03.31.12 | "I listen to music at work."
lol are you working on a music magazine or are you a music journalist ?
What kind of employment is it that you are allowed to listen to music while working ? :-P |
TheNotrap
03.31.12 | Hahaha I work on Marketing and Advertising.
Everybody is allowed to listen to music and I own the playlist ;-) |
rockandmetaljunkie
03.31.12 | ok man rock on |
Jethro42
03.31.12 | ''I, Vigilante is their best?''
I can't decide on which is better between The Crafty Ape and I, Vigilante. Both are essential stuff. 200 Tons of Badluck is not far behind. Don't miss them all. |
JamieTwort
03.31.12 | The Crafty Ape is one of my favourite albums of the year so far. |
KjSwantko
03.31.12 | A Change of Seasons kicks ass, definitely DT's best piece. |
TheNotrap
03.31.12 | @Jethro&JT
Will check their stuff, I really enjoyed those 2 songs.
@KJ
Yeah, definitely one of their best moments. Home and Metropolis - Part One remain my favourite songs though.
If you wish, check this out:

And tell me what you think |
Jethro42
03.31.12 | Same here, JT. I'm jamming on it atm.
@Notrap; I'd prolly start with I, Vigilante which is easier to approach. The Crafty Apes needs couple of spins to fully appreciate, and trust me, it paids off. |
TheNotrap
03.31.12 | ^ For what I've heard their music is very accessible and catchy.
I trust your word, will start with I, Vigilante
I believe their some kind of a UK supergroup, right? With drastic line-up changes between albums....I hope they have a strong identity despite that. |
Turtlestlker
03.31.12 | Septic Flesh - Communion
Aborted-Global Flatline
Meshuggah-Koloss lots of this |
Jethro42
03.31.12 | @Notrap; I don't have any infos about the band's origins yet, but I can assure you that both these 3 albums have the same spirit. The Crafty Ape stands out cos it's a monster of album with its 3 chapters to swallow. There's a lot to digest on that one but it's so eargasmic ultimately! It's more like space rock tinted with blues/psychedelic leanings, and definitely more jam-style, adventurous and versatile than the other ones which are a tad more accessible. Better and better with each listens. |
