Best Steely Dan Albums
The best Steely Dan studio albums |
1 | | Steely Dan Aja
Probably their magnum-opus. Amazing production, and probably their
most consistent album. Side one is incredible. |
2 | | Steely Dan Countdown to Ecstasy
Feels kind of like an improved version of Can't Buy a Thrill. Also has
really great guitar work from Skunk Baxter. |
3 | | Steely Dan Katy Lied
The first five tracks on this are pretty much flawless. Black Friday rules |
4 | | Steely Dan Pretzel Logic
Probably the most varied of their albums, and Rikki Don't Lose that
Number has been played to death by FM radio over the years. Still,
there's some great material on this. |
5 | | Steely Dan Can't Buy a Thrill
It's a hell of a debut, but I always find myself comparing it to
Countdown, which I've always thought was a (slightly) better album. I
do like David Palmer's vocals quite a bit, though. |
6 | | Steely Dan Gaucho
It's pretty good in retrospect. Feels very much like Aja minus the jazzy
chord changes. I actually really like the polished production. It fits the
music nicely |
7 | | Steely Dan The Royal Scam
While it's not a bad album, it's simply too inconsistent compared to
most of their other releases. I will say that "Kid Charlemagne" and
"The Caves of Altamira" are among their best work. |
8 | | Steely Dan Two Against Nature
I was never really able to get into 21st century Dan. It's not that it's
bad-I just don't find much of it very exciting. I do like "Gaslighting
Abbie" and "Cousin Dupree" though. |
9 | | Steely Dan Everything Must Go
Same goes for this one. Feels like more of the same to me. Still not
bad, though. I really like Godwhacker |
