| Favorite Progressive Rock Albums
There's a special place in my heart for good progressive rock; these are my Top 10 Favorite Progressive Rock albums. | 1 | | Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
Yeah, this is kind of expected and rather cliche, but this album is truly one of the best albums of all time. So many classic songs, the sound effects, the way the songs blend together; and it's timeless. | 2 | | Porcupine Tree Deadwing
Steven Wilson is an un-noticed progressive rock god who truly creates some awe-inspiring, classic music. Deadwing is no exception. | 3 | | Rush 2112
The 2112 Suite may a bit aged and old, but the album still features some classic guitar work, Geddy's vocals are great in this album, and the album is a timeless epic. | 4 | | Pink Floyd Animals
Quite simply, Animals is a great album because of Pink Floyd's political stance in the album, the more acoustic oriented guitars, and the song Dogs. | 5 | | Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
Shine On You Crazy Diamond is pretty freaking awesome. The album never drags or gets boring, and is a lot more psychedelic than Animals. | 6 | | The Mars Volta De-Loused in the Comatorium
The Mars Volta's unique infusion of latin and rock makes one of progressive rock's best releases in years. So many classics, and the album works together as a whole. | 7 | | Tool AEnima
The album isn't as bland and predictable as Lateralus, not as winding and long as 10,000 Days, and not as immature as Undertow. Tool at their peak, right here. | 8 | | Coheed and Cambria Second Stage Turbine Blade
Claudio's unique vocal arrangements and style + amazing guitar work + whacked out storyline. What's not to like? | 9 | | Pink Floyd The Wall
Once again, an astonishing Pink Floyd album. There's plenty of great listens, and Comfortably Numb is arguably Floyd's best song, but the album feels a bit lenghty in spots and drags a bit in the middle. | 10 | | Minus the Bear Planet of Ice
Brand new, ass-spanking record by Alternative Rock's former partyboys who settled down, and made a legitimate, solid, and epic Progressive Rock album. | |

08.19.07 | Wow, so you do like good music. I can't stand the vocals of 8 nor did I find it very musically impressive. | jrowa001
08.19.07 | i have all these except for 10 (which ill be getting soon). these are also all great albums but i like 5 more than 1. i recommend some Camel (similar to PF) and Riverside (similar to PT) | IsItLuck?
08.19.07 | This just in: Second Stage Turbine Blade is Prog. | TheStarclassicTreatment
08.19.07 | These are all amazing except for 6 imo and I gaven't heard 10 yet.
and 9 qould be higher for me. | tribestros
08.19.07 | Planet of Ice is progressive rock.
Coheed and Cambria's later releases were more prog though. | robin2220
08.19.07 | Prog or not I didn't like it. | tribestros
08.19.07 | But, yeah, I listen to good music. I get shunned on this website because I like Nickelback and Linkin Park.
Well, with Nickelback, its more of a few songs that I like. | MeowMeow
08.19.07 | "Geddy's vocals are great"
Like "haha thats funny" great, right? | Dis_Con_Nec_Ted
08.19.07 | 7 ftw. | tribestros
08.19.07 | I like Geddy's higher pitched vocals better than the Snakes & Arrows shit. | tribestros
08.19.07 | Name me a better Pink Floyd album than Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall.
Name me a better Porcupine Tree album.
Name me a better, more epic Rush album. Their early prog stuff, not their Moving Pictures era.
Name me a better Mars Volta album.
And how in god's name is Tool not progressive rock? The 8 minute songs with long bridges, random guitar twinges, etc, storylines, long ass albums=PROGRESSIVE ROCK | IsItLuck?
08.19.07 | just because there is a storyline it doesn't mean it's progressive, it's just a concept album.
As for naming better albums, that argument is retarded, on both sides.
While Tool show sides of progressive rock, Aenima is still more rock/metal than progressive album.
As for the whole Coheed argument, just because their latest album is progressive-esque, doesn't mean they are a progressive rock band. That would be like saying "Halfway Between Here and There" by the Rx Bandits is a progressive album, when it is a ska album, it just happened that the band is leaning towards progressive-ska lately. You can't judge an entire discography by a band because of one album. | chimera908
08.19.07 | Um for TMV Frances the Mute is better. Also you really need to listen to maudlin of the Well. Best prog ever. | chimera908
08.19.07 | Obviously it's my opinion Frances is better. Not trying to sound pissy or anything. | tribestros
08.20.07 | Frances was good, but De-Loused is still my favorite.
btw, as usual iluvatar started the argument.
Dick. | MrKite
08.20.07 | He wasn't being a dick, he was being frank. | MrKite
08.20.07 | And Hemispheres and A Farewell To Kings are both better than 2112. | astrel
08.20.07 | a farewell to kings is way better. does 10 even count as prog? | Zoo
08.20.07 | Wow, Tribe, I am impressed. 2, 3, 6, and 7 are primo. | P13
08.20.07 | Frances is Better and C n' C is a prog band because their entire band is based around a concept that they are using for their albums, the story of Coheed and Cambria. | Electric City
08.20.07 | Trib, you really are an idiot sometimes. You had a pretty good list, but it turned into an argument. Your tastes are good, and your reviews are improving, so like, be cooler. | kingsoby1
08.20.07 | I agree, 3 Floyd albums is excessive... imo, DSotM is far and away their best work. 7 is not prog, although, yes, their later releases are. I feel that you can count Tool as a prog-rock band, and that 2112 is the best Rush album. However, you have committed a grievous offense by claiming Deadwing is better than In Absentia. Deadwing just sounds half-assed compared to either release before or after it. | FR33L0RD
08.22.07 | 1 to 5,7 & 9 are excellent
I never listened to 6,8 & 10. |
