Slayer Rated

A band that needs no introduction. And if it does need one for you, then please go sleep in a highway.
10Slayer
Diabolus in Musica

It sounds a lot like heresy but it happened: a Slayer album with a ridiculously strong rap feel to it. Fancy song titles and overall dark mood do not save this from being Slayer's worst album ever from a mile away. Nor prevent it from earning a Fallout Award.
9Slayer
Christ Illusion

Maybe I had the hopes high for this, but it failed to live up to God Hates Us All. A frankly repetitive experience with some highlights.
8Slayer
Show No Mercy

Does not show any mercy to its listener, that's for sure. Also has a pleasant classic flavour not found on anything they've done afterwards. But, maybe because they've made some of the greatest albums in history of metal, it feels a bit down. Maybe it could be higher though.
7Slayer
World Painted Blood

Proof positive that Slayer still kick ass (unlike Metallica). Shows the same ol' brutality...in 2009. That's right, 24 years after Hell Awaits they still reign in blood.
6Slayer
Seasons in the Abyss

In order to follow-up South of Heaven, Slayer did the expected: combined the brutal part ('86) with the melodic part ('88). Problem? Not much but it kinda fails to reach the same greatness of the two previous albums.
5Slayer
Hell Awaits

THIS is the album that made the legend. Blackish, but still a very aggressive thrash metal experience.
4Slayer
God Hates Us All

Most controversial pick. Slayer's 2001 resurrection after their 1998 disaster almost sounds like it was made by a newer band. Slipknotesque lyrics do not favour it (have you ever read the lyrics of "Threshold" or "Payback"?) but it surely returns with the aggression and technicality this band is known for. Hail "Disciple".
3Slayer
Divine Intervention

This list's second most controversial pick. Combines the brutality of Reign in Blood with the melody of South of Heaven in a much better way than Seasons in the Abyss, if you ask me.
2Slayer
South of Heaven

Two years after the most brutal album the world had ever seen, Slayer realized that they shouldn't use the same old formula. Instead, South of Heaven presents us a darker, more melodic attitude. And continues Slayer's reputation in being a masterpiece. It may be South of Heaven but it's north of great.
1Slayer
Reign in Blood

Is anyone surprised? The year was 1986. Slayer, trying to make a decent follow-up to their groundbreaking 1985 effort Hell Awaits, end up by making a classic, best-reckoned by the songs "Angel of Death" and "Raining Blood", although it does have lost gems that aren't all that remembered (e.g. "Postmortem"). Best metal album ever? Dunno, but it's one of my top 3 albums of the legendary year of 1986.
