How Much Does High Ratings/critical Acclaim Factor Into Subjective Listening?

I was thinking about this last night, and I want to hear my fellow sputnikers opinions on this. Basically my question is how much do other peoples ratings influence yours? Is it possible to completely remove population bias and rate an album completely subjectively? If, and lets use Radiohead for an example, you listened to Ok Computer completely subjectively, without knowing anything about how much praise the bands gets and all that...would you have rated it differently then if you did? My theory behind this is that ratings/acclaim plays a role subconsciously without us even realizing...and only when you acknowledge this and overcome it can you really become a completely subjective music criticizer. Another thing to think about, if its true that acclaim and hype does play a large role in people views on an album/artist...then is an album like ok computer or wish you were here(again just using examples) really that good or just a product of hype?
