BUT, I will admit that every once in a while if, for example, I'm about to give some album that I thought was garbage a 2 or something, I see that some user whose taste I respect gave it a 4.5 or something then I will think "hmm maybe I'm missing something" and go re-listen to it. 99% of the time I end up sticking to my 2 though. |

So yeah, high ratings and critical acclaim can play a role in what people hear and what they think, but not everyone is affected by this and the influence of the high ratings can be unpredictable. |

It would be different if it were videogames, where it's more standardized what's good and what isn't, due to effort placed into the games. But with music, some things just sound great to us, and others don't.
You can be as open-minded as possible, and still not enjoy something. It's almost like food, how our tastes buds just react completely differently towards particular foods and there isn't anything we can do about it but follow what they tell us we enjoy. :P |

But I try really, really hard not to let other people's ratings influence me. That's really all you can do. |

4. understand what easy/bad songwriting sounds like.
Then when you realize everything you listen to is complete shit we can have a good laugh about all this.

Therefore I am more likely to listen to the "sputnik core" and think of them as good. I will never discover the other albums that would be "better" that receive less critical acclaim. |
