My Top Twenty Seven

My top albums evar. Enjoy
27Earl Sweatshirt
Earl

I guess the reason why I try to support Odd Future so much is because they really deserve it. I mean tyler taught himself to play multiple instruments, he is a great rapper, and an awesome producer. They are also real. They just dont give a fuck about anything and that's exciting. "earl" is thier best album i can really get behind them, no matter how annoying they can be at times.
26Miles Davis
Kind Of Blue

Seen by many as the perfect jazz album. There are better, but still close to perfection
25Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas...

The way I judge instrumental bands is if they are able to tell a story without saying their purpose directly. No band does this better than Godspeed.
24The Olivia Tremor Control
Dusk At Cubist Castle

So basically, if the beatles came out in the 90's this is what they'd sound like. Oh, and the ambient tracks are awesome.
23Ras Kass
Soul On Ice

This album has the best lyrics of any hip hop album Ras's flow is great, and the beats are really good. Shut up they are not lacking.
22Pink Floyd
Animals

The best floyd album, dont even joke.
21The Dillinger Escape Plan
Calculating Infinity

Incredible album. Virtuosic instrumentation, underated and obstrusely awesome vocals, and cohesive sampling. Even though the production isn't perfect and can be bizzar, it fits the music. Even if for some crazy reason you hate this album, YOU HAVE to respect the talent it takes to create something like this. And that's pretty much it: either you respect this album, or it will take your respect by force.
20The Cure
Disintegration

The peak of Robert Smith as a songwriter. "Love Song" is about him embarking in a marriage with a women he loves. And nothing could be more scary.
19John Zorn
Naked City

Probably the most abstruse album on this list. This is one of those album where you listen to it. You think "this sucks ass". Then you listen to it again. "Meh". Then you listen to it again. "wow this is amazing" Then you listen to it over and over again add nausem.
18Deftones
Saturday Night Wrist

Criminally underated. To me it's flawless. Every song has qualities, and even Pink Cell Phone is good. C'mon guys stop lying to yourselfs
17Autechre
Tri Repetae++

The song structures remind me of post rock-except in electronic form.
16GZA
Liquid Swords

Great lyricism coupled with flawless production= something enjoyable to listen to. Shocking.
15Jackie-O Motherfucker
Fig. 5

One of the most underated albums. This needs your respect. Check them out, you won't be disapointed.
14Panda Bear
Person Pitch

I stand by my philosophy that long songs shouldnt feel like thier long. A thirty minute epic should go by quickly, becuase that means I enjoyed it. 'Person Pitch' has this way of making songs go by very quickly. Maybe it's becuase the song structures feel like they could go on forever anyway. That takes compositional skills man
13Talk Talk
Laughing Stock

This is one album that i can't understand not liking. It's so easy to get into, if you think this is bad then listen closer cuz yur wrong.
12Modern Life Is War
Witness

Intense, down to earth, and well written this beats out "dangers-Anger" as my favorite hardcore album ever. The vocals are just too good. Seriously, stop it.
11Kashiwa Daisuke
Program Music I

The most beautiful album i've heard.
10Eric Dolphy
Out To Lunch

I love the quirkiness, and the skill desplayed hear. He had a lot of potential, its too bad he died so young becuase this album puts a smile on my face every time.
9City Of Caterpillar
City Of Caterpillar

This needs more recognition. Although ctts gets all the praise (and the backlash) i feel this is way better. For one thing the buildups are epic, the songwriting unpredictable, and the vocals are simply an audible anxiety attack. Seriously, i am not an anxous person but when I hear this record you can see me on the floor sweating and chewing on my nails.
Not really but still.
8Burial
Untrue

If you take the sum of 'untrue's parts, its nothing spectacular. The drum and bass formula, while entertaining is monotonous and repeats throughout the album. The samples are nice but nothing particularly outstanding. But when you put them all together something amazing happens. It gives off this lonely effect that couldnt be more beautiful. For some reason when I listen to this I feel something. Not becuase it's telling me exactly what's on its mind but lets me fill in the blank. Proof of his immense talent and my favorite electronic album of all time.
7King Crimson
In The Court Of The Crimson King

The album cover above shows my expression when I lost my copy.
6John Coltrane
A Love Supreme

Blessed with the most beutiful tone out there, in my eyes John Coltrane is the single best musician/artist of all time. Yes, he is that good.
5Discordance Axis
The Inalienable Dreamless

How this wasnt on either of the sputnik decade lists is beyond me. Not emotionally gripping, but cold and calculated. Not a discordant blast of random noise, but an exercise in complex composition. Not a pretty, blue cloud, but probably the best grind album of all time
4My Bloody Valentine
Loveless

In my eyes, 'loveless' is the only perfect album of all time. The name is ironic becuase its a celebration of love, happiness, and a big pink hipser orgy.
3Kayo Dot
Choirs Of The Eye

There are two kinds of lyricists; those who talk about specific things, and those whose word dont really make sense but instead paint an obscure picure with metaphors and colorful words. The lyrics for Kayo Dot are such, but it goes beyond that. There isnt a band that bisects Musicianship and songwriting better than Kayo Dot. They have this way of dragging you into their songs. No, into thier world. However, like a dream, you wake up from it when "the antique" ends and the memory of what just happens fades. After a while you dont remember at all but all you do know is you want to listen again.
2The Beach Boys
Pet Sounds

What makes the perfect pop song? Is it catchiness? Or is it subject matter that everyone can relate to? Well, Pet Sounds has both of these covered. The song's are on such a broad spectrum that any one can indentify with them. Not to mention musically it's perfect. And another thing, Brian Wilson's Harmonizing is without peer.
1Charles Mingus
The Black Saint And The Sinner Lady

Simply the best ever. it is complex, bautes, and cinematic but it goes beyond that. Despite no narraration it manages to tell a mongrel story of religion, exceptance, and race. Even if you dont like music listen to this album, for it is a work of art that transcends a label and or medium and every one needs it in thier life.
