09.10.11 | damn, I go at least 40 on my 25 cross street every day and I've never been pulled over. |

09.10.11 | i got pulled over doin' 95 in a 55 through lampasas, but luckily the cop who pulled me over was a cool dude so he just wrote that i was doin 70.
anyway i heard if you do contest your ticket and the cop who gave you your ticket doesn't show up it automatically gets thrown out. |

09.10.11 | you could take it to court.... but you WERE going 41 in a 25, can't really contest that. that fine is a bit steep though |
iFghtffyrdmns
09.10.11 | damn. rough. |
toxin.
09.10.11 | That's fucking retarded. I've gone 40 on my 25 only once though, since I don't have an open road anywhere like you do. Anyways I've never gotten a ticket so I don't know what's the better choice. I'd recommend driver's school, though, if you can pay the fine off. $241 is ridiculous though. |
ComfortablyDumb
09.10.11 | Man, that's shit. You could try taking it to court, a couple of buddies of mine took their tickets to court a few times and the officers never showed up = case dismissed and you don't have to pay shit. |
UnnamedOcean
09.10.11 | I bomb down my street going 40 all the time. The police never, ever go through my neighborhood. Sucks
that you got caught for that. One guy I knew in high school said if the officers radar gun isn't
registered you can't be fined, but I'm not sure if that is true. |
ComfortablyDumb
09.10.11 | And I was doing 61 in a 40 zone once (km not miles, I was driving home to my igloo), and the cop lowered it to a 50, still had to pay $40 or something though, can't remember.
The korean foreign-exchange student in my passenger seat was freaking out the entire time, it was pretty hilarious |
crazyblinddude
09.10.11 | Yeah, contesting tickets works much better for those red camera lights, based on what I've heard from
the people I've talked to in the government. But ehh if it's any consolation the online traffic school
is easy as shit. You can open up multiple tabs and just ctrl+f everything. And I know for certain (at
least in CA) that you can do online traffic school for one of your tickets if you haven't already
within a set amount of time (not sure the time period though). You'll be done in 20 minutes, but the
site I used wanted you to clock in like 8 hours so I just left the browser open and went out for the
rest of the day and finished when I got back. |
foreverendeared
09.10.11 | There's a really good shot at you getting off completely if you contest it in court because most of the time, the officer who pulled you over is not going to bother showing up on the court date. |
MisterTornado
09.10.11 | Contest it, they won't want to go through all the trouble for a measly speed ticket. They'll throw
that shit out. |
DeathByDaydream
09.10.11 | i got a $300 ticket for going through a yellow.
don't contest it in court. if you're under 18 you can get the first offender deal like i did. |
pmmets07
09.10.11 | yeah everyone who contests usually get out of it |
acorncheese
09.10.11 | I'm 21 and this is my first offense. What if I contest it and the judge denies it? Will I still be able to do driving school? |
crazyblinddude
09.10.11 | Yeah don't worry the judge can't deny you from taking traffic school even if you contested it. They need a legitimate eligibility reason to deny you from traffic school. |
AfterTheBreakdown
09.11.11 | My buddy always goes to court. He always gets them reduced. |
acorncheese
09.11.11 | What would I say to the judge though? |
AfterTheBreakdown
09.11.11 | I have no idea man. My friend is pretty good at getting out of shit though. Like today he was shooting geese off of his roof with his shotgun and got away with that even though the sheriff saw him haha. |
FromDaHood
09.11.11 | I'd go to court, there's lots of ways to get that reduced at the very least, but 40% of tickets get lost in the courts anyway so I wouldn't worry too much |
Kimm
09.11.11 | " (km not miles, I was driving home to my igloo)"
Man I wish my dogsled went that fast.
acorncheese - go to court and just explain to the judge that you understand you broke the traffic law, and that even though you didn't necessarily overstep the boundaries of common sense, you made a mistake, it won't happen again, and you are simply asking for a measure of grace.
Also helps to bat your eyelashes and giggle a little bit, but I'll honest - that only works for some people.
As long as you're respectful and honest, I truly believe there's a high likelihood of the judge being reasonable.
