04.10.11 | Hey Hep, still want those lessons? ;) |

04.10.11 | bloodmeat, turn soonest, and blindfolds aside. im in the same boat as hep. i can play a few unidirectional sweeping patterns but in anything else im s.o.l. its probably because if i cant learn a song in a half hour i just dont learn it at all. |

04.10.11 | I can play one little three-string diminished sweep run up the frets to impress the ladies. |

04.10.11 | I play them on drums, so I can't say anything about. |

04.10.11 | Tapping impresses the ladies lol |

04.10.11 | climactic, Im 100% self taught and unless you are some kind of musical genius you can only teach yourself so much. I really doubt im alone in this but i taught myself by figuring out songs i liked until i was good enough to compose my own stuff and i think it worked pretty great.
My reason for learning PtH is to increase my speed, technical ability, approach and muscle memory which i think is improving just from trying to learn one song. Its not like im planning on stealing their songs, i dont usually even play metal.
I think I will start working on Bloodmeat till I have money to buy the Kezia book. I somehow managed to learn the verse/intro to sex tape and am fuckin stoked. |

04.10.11 | i just think it's better to use your own ideas to get better rather than to use other people's

04.10.11 | pth is pretty fucking fun to play on drums, though |
Athom
04.10.11 | if you are new to a style/technique or really want to push yourself i cant really think of a better way to get acquainted with it than to play other people's work |

04.10.11 | try cest la va |

04.10.11 | imo there's no point in playing music unless you are being creative with it. writing your own exercises and such. i went to the school of rock for lessons for almost 4 years and it was focused around learning other bands songs. and i've advanced much more at guitar and drums in the year and a half after i quit, teaching myself and writing stuff, more than all 4 years there |

04.10.11 | I think covers are fun and fine, but I don't consider yourself a great guitarist unless you can write great. Just my opinion. |

04.10.11 | It's easier to imitate someone else's sound than creating your own. |

04.10.11 | obviously writing leads and chord progressions doesn't make you a good guitarist, but writing GOOD and CREATIVE leads/progressions does.. |

04.10.11 | I think the main thing about guitar that people miss is that who's teaching you is not the important part. Your own drive to learn is what makes you good at guitar. I taught myself guitar from the ground by practicing jazz theory, doing various exercises, and learning other people's songs to reinforce what I've learned. In two and a half years of doing it my way I've learned infinitely more than my band's old second guitarist who has been taking lessons from people with a somewhat celebrity status in the music world for seven years. The only reason for me to bring this up is not to brag but to say the only limits are the ones you set yourself. Oh yeah and the laws of physics. |
climactic
04.10.11 | that's not what makes you good, fr33. playing sweepz is what makes someone good |
TheStefan
04.10.11 | Divine Suicide of K. isn't that hard to learn. |
djocelot
04.10.11 | im halfway through bloodmeat right now, waaaaaay easier the dissentience. Im having trouble picking up to speed on the main riff in cest la vie. |
flalafell
04.10.11 | instead of learning how to play their music, i prefer to wank. it's easier to do and the end result is the same |
djocelot
04.11.11 | holy crap, the note pattern at 1:31 in c'est la vie is freakin odd. |
tkxxx7
04.11.11 | just play metalcore it's easy
junz and sweepz |
djocelot
04.11.11 | I dont want to play something easy, that was the whole point. |
