01.31.11 | i really hate subgenres. |
wyankeif1337
01.31.11 | it's not about the subgenres; i honestly couldn't care less what you call it. i just want to know if any bands exist that meld death metal and post-rock, or something similar |
ShadowRemains
01.31.11 | i hope there isn't |

01.31.11 | Good question.
I have no idea... That'd be a cool combo. |

01.31.11 | who knows |
Gorification
01.31.11 | @wyankeif but having a name for everything causes stagnation. the more specific a genre is, the less creative the bands are going to be. |
climactic
01.31.11 | yeah that's why there is only one true genre.....

01.31.11 | @ Gorification
i'm ocd about my itunes genres (and a lot of other things) but i certainly agree with you to an extent. but the thing is that i didn't want to title this list as "death metal with atmospheric sludge and/or post-rock-esque influences (+digs)" so i just went with an inherently inaccurate genre descriptor that would nevertheless easily get across the theoretical style of music i'm asking about, if that makes any sense |
Deviant.
01.31.11 | Why the fuck do people insist on coming up with names for everything. How about you just enjoy the music, yeah? |

01.31.11 | Who cares about genres? Any talented band will most likely break with "genre policies" either way. |
wyankeif1337
01.31.11 | again, i don't give a shit about genres. i'm just asking if anyone knows of any dm bands that incorporate post-rock influences into their sound. |
lamer
01.31.11 | implying that post dm = dm + post rock |
Hawks
01.31.11 | When I hear the word post-and then any kind of metal after, I think of either metal mixed with post-rock or some kind of experimental metal. Technically it's not really a genre though, as Qwe said. Don't know how you could think of Ulcerate that way dude haha. |
BlueW
01.31.11 | There might be bands who do mix Post-Rock with Death but I wouldn't call it Post-Death Metal, I think the post is there after a certain genre has fulfilled it's purpose as in Post-Rock is after the whole Rock thing was over with, so it is essentially Rock after Rock finished. Same goes with Post-Hardcore, I believe that it just means a state of hardcore after hardcore. Get it? |

01.31.11 | haha try labelling deathconsciousness's genre on ur itunes then. |

rasputin
01.31.11 | there is no death metal that incorporates post-rock. if you want some experimental death metal, that's a different thing, but it has always existed alongside death metal therefore it has never been and never will be called 'post'-death metal |
foreverendeared
01.31.11 | "there is no death metal that incorporates post-rock."
I know you don't like the album Rasputin, but Mutyumu - Ilya does the opposite, it's post-rock that incorporates death metal, so the combination has been done before. |
qwe3
01.31.11 | ilya is no way death metal
like at all |
foreverendeared
01.31.11 | Didn't say it was, at all. |
foreverendeared
01.31.11 | At least I'm hoping it didn't come across that way; it's definitely post-rock. |
rasputin
01.31.11 | there is absolutely zero death metal influence or incorporation on Ilya, regardless of my bias towards/against it. really not sure how you think there is because you're not an idiot. |
foreverendeared
01.31.11 | Fuck, I don't know, I'm going to blame it on exhaustion and too much studying. |

foreverendeared
01.31.11 | incorporates death metal =/= IS death metal
"it's post-rock" |
qwe3
01.31.11 | yeah but you can see why the response "it isn't death metal at all" is kinda appropriate to that with the way it was worded
terrible album too. gawd |
foreverendeared
01.31.11 | Yeah I didn't mean to imply it was. I like the album even though the screaming is really terrible on it. I haven't listened to it in a few years though. |

eternium
02.06.11 | Death metal and post-rock simply wouldn't mix in the same way that black metal and sludge metal do with it. |
sifFlammable
02.07.11 | i havnt rly listened to todtgelichter's new album properly (man i swear that album cover is 100% suited to alcest) so dont hate me if im wrong, but from wat i heard its..well..neither lol |

09.11.11 | Post death metal articles on invisile oranges and heavy blog is heavy.Ulcerate and murder therapy FTW |
YetAnotherBrick
09.11.11 | I'd probably go with Ulcerate, too. |
eternium
09.11.11 | Post-rock and death metal I couldn't see naturally coming together as well as the other genres. Death metal is far too much (generally) about riffage and brutality while black metal and sludge metal both are (generally) more about emotion and atmosphere. |
ZombicidalMan
09.11.11 | With the way people hand out sub-genres nowadays, a post-rock band could tune to Baritone and they'd be 'Post-death metal'. |
YetAnotherBrick
09.11.11 | Post-metal, (and post-death metal, if it's out there) aren't so much combinations of post-rock and metal as they are just exaggerated forms of metal, just like post-rock is an exaggerated form of rock. Metal mainly relies on riffs, lots of different riffs switching it up all throughout the songs, whereas post-metal (just like post-rock) creates textures and atmospheres typically only using variations of a few riffs. You can't combine post-rock and metal to make post-metal, because metal is already different from 'rock.' You take metal and sprawl it out to make post-metal. Naw mean? |
eternium
09.11.11 | It is a combination but you get the main point. |
Transcend
09.11.11 | Wow, how'd this get bumped? |
ShadowRemains
09.12.11 | cuz dethrucci is dumb |

09.12.11 | "You take metal and sprawl it out to make post-metal."
