My 2009 List

Better late than never...
15Burden of a Day
OneOneThousand

Nothing groundbreaking but solid effort BoaD. I'm still waiting for your new project...
Favorite tracks: Remember, Sly Foxes
14Set Your Goals
This Will Be the Death of Us

Man, I hope they put out more heavy tracks. Gaia Bleeds is the shit.
Favorite tracks: Gaia Bleeds (Make Way for Man), The Fallen...
13Emery
...In Shallow Seas We Sail

What 2009 list is complete without it?
Favorite tracks: Dear Death, Pt. 2, A Sin to Hold on To
12Taking Back Sunday
New Again

I didn't really like the direction they TBS started going in on this one as a whole but there are still some gems to be found here. I miss Fred...
Favorite tracks: Swing, Everything Must Go
11Oh, Sleeper
Son of the Morning

"I'll cut off your horns!" Nuff said.
Favorite tracks: The Finisher, Breathing Blood
10Fightstar
Be Human

I don't know if Fightstar will ever be able to write a record better than Grand Unification but this is still a worthy addition to their discography.
Favorite tracks: The English Way, Calling on All Stations
9Mae
(m)orning

It's an EP, I know. But this is too good to leave out. The Fisherman Song was a stellar closer when I saw them on their farewell tour.
Favorite tracks: A Melody, the Memory, The Fisherman Song (We All Need Love)
8Strike Anywhere
Iron Front

I always thought Strike Anywhere was at their best when they were either playing music that was either catchy or heavy. This is a really good combination of the two.
Favorite tracks: Postcards from Home, I'm Your Opposite Number
7Showbread
The Fear of God

If it weren't for the first track and the last two this would be much closer to the top of my list. Slick guitar riffs and bass lines as well as catchy vocals are littered throughout this one.
Favorite tracks: I Think I'm Going to See You, Nothing Matters Anymore
6Of Machines
As If Everything Was Held in Place

R.I.P. Of Machines, you guys had so much potential.
Favorite tracks: Becoming Close to Closure, Lost in Translation
5Saosin
In Search of Solid Ground

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one on Sputnik who liked this record. Definitely a grower.
Favorite tracks: I Keep My Secrets Safe, What Were We Made For?
4Silverstein
A Shipwreck in the Sand

A heavier Silverstein with better screams? Sign me up.
Favorite tracks: Vices, American Dream
3Closure in Moscow
First Temple

The best debut album I've heard in years. Every member of CiM brings their A game on this one. I was really bummed when I heard their drummer and bassist recently left the band.
Favorite tracks: Sweet#hart, A Night at the Spleen
2Deas Vail
Birds & Cages

Stellar record, especially coming from a guy who's never been much into indie-pop. Check it out if you haven't.
Favorite tracks: Atlantis, Excuses
1August Burns Red
Constellations

Jake Luhrs, JB Brubaker, and Matt Greiner ftw.
Favorite tracks: Meddler, White Washed
