My All Time Favourite
These are the 10 bands I feel I've developed a strong connection to since I went into rock music. |
1 | Metallica
My first rock band. Before them I was just listening to poppish songs and never had an idea of what rock music really was. I discovered them by a friend during secondary school and I instantly loved them. Me and my friends learned how to play guitar on their songs. |
2 | blink 182
They are the second rock band I really fell for. They're music combined some raw punk sounds with pop solutions and mixed them in a very unique way (at least for the '90). I discovered them at the beginning of High School, so I was among the pubblic their music was focused on. I loved them at first listen and tried to emulate them several times with my high school band. |
3 | Green Day
Same as blink, which I discovered a little before. They were more slow but also more "sincere" then blink. Green Day's 2004 American Idiot Tour was my life's first concert. I'll never forget them. |
4 | Nirvana
They were introduced to me by a dear friend of mine during my first high school year ( yes that has been a really rock 'n roll year for me). I remember I enjoyed them but not as much as I thought I would. Three years later, they became almost my favourite band of all time. Every song by them is sincere and rocking. The power of their music seems to be proportional to its simplicity. Absolutely a HUGE influence on my musical background. Much more then previous bands. |
5 | Red Hot Chili Peppers
Another great band I discovered during my first high school year. In the beginning I didn't like them so much because I was really into raw music but an year later I captured their sex, drugs and rock n' roll attitude and became fond of them. They were one of the few bands I discovered by hearing their earliest works ( My first cd of them was Uplift Mofo's Party Plan). While enjoying them really really much my bands didn't get really influenced by them because we kinda felt they had an unique and unimitable sound. |
6 | Nine Inch Nails
Discovered them only a couple of years ago. I am speechless because Trent Reznor is a genius. He simply express all that anger and frustration using another way apart from the usual raw punk/metal style. And he fullfills his purpose very well. I enjoy his music although sometimes I feel too unexperienced to full aperciate it. Speechless. |
7 | System Of A Down
After Metallica, they are my main metal influence. Heavy, Fast, Angry and also Political. They're everything I was looking forward to hear aside from Metallica. Discovered them during my second high school year. Always tried to sound like them while writing metal songs but just couldn't be able to reach 1/3rd of they're greatness. |
8 | Muse
Paradoxically I discovered them before Radiohead and so I initially considered them a revolutionary geniuses. I was wrong but for the first three albums, Bellamy and company become as important to me as Nirvana. They sound intricate, raw, quiet, and delicate contemporaneily. Another band I tried to copy during my early songwriting days, failing miserably. |
9 | Radiohead
I descovered them during the same year I knew NIN. Only after hearing their first three albums I realized how much Muse own to them. They are truly musical geniuses. I mostly listen to their first four albums and love them all in spite of feeling sometimes still too much unexperienced to enjoy them completely. They seem to come from outer space and lyrically they are the band which inspired me more than anyone else. Thom Yorke's a poet. |
10 | Oasis
I knew almost every famous song by them but the first three albums are marked on fire in my memory. These guys rock my life as much as they were on drugs and every kind of excess in the 90's. When I think of them six words appear on my mind: Sex, Drugs and Rock n' Roll. Although I'm a bass player, they're probably the only band I love whose songs are not on my bass'skills but only on my guitar's. |
