Songs About Addiction Pt. 2

Yes, this is Pit. No, I do not know why I was banned. Do I have any suspicions? For the first time since I've joined Sputnik, I truly haven't any idea why I was banned. I believe I've toned it down a bit, but unfortunately, some people get huttburt more easily than others. List is self-explanatory.
1Nine Inch Nails
Hurt

With lyrics like, "I hurt myself today," and "The needle tears a hole," it's obvious what Trent is vocalizing. However, I don't believe the mix of metaphors and blunt lyrics have ever been blended so perfectly. It tells about the treacherous life you lead when your under the influence of an outside substance, and the hole it will lead you into.
2Johnny Cash
Comin' Down

The title itself is self-explanatory, as there is no greater pain in the world than waking up the next morning to find you are out of your fix, and life's about to smack you right in the face.
3UPO
Godless

I understand drug addicts/alcoholics don't deserve any sympathy, but their minds trick them into thinking they do, and this song is a perfect example. Drug addiction/alcoholism is just a pity party for an unfortunate soul. I put this song on here more for nostalgic reasons, as when I was 15 and on the brink of insanity I would hear this song and feel much better about what had happened or what was to come.
4Jawbreaker
Kiss the Bottle

As blunt as it gets, it tells the story of a loving relationship destroyed by chemical dependency, and the feeling of wanting to be completely left alone to wallow in your own misery.
5Goo Goo Dolls
Black Balloon

A song about watching your loved one kill themselves due to heroin use. During my trials and tribulations, all of my friends were sitting there watching me wither away, because they had already exhausted every path to get me outta the mess I had created for myself. When I finally gave up everything, one of my best friends(RIP) told me this song expressed her feelings perfectly, as she felt completely useless as I destroyed mine and everyone else's lives.
6Runrig
In Search of Angels

A song about knowing that the end is near. An addict hits a point, sooner or later, where it seems like their only option is to end their life. It's the most lonely, desperate feeling in the world, and sometimes, you can't help what thoughts run through your mind.
7Townes Van Zandt
Waiting Around to Die

That's basically what addiction is: just waiting around for the end. Sometimes stopping is such a futile effort....
8Social Distortion
Ball & Chain

WIshing a God or just someone or something would just take away everything that brings you pain. Unfortunately, that's just not enough. You have to be proactive, but addicts are people who just wish things were different, and that there isn't any other way. Drugs are like a leech: they suck every ounce of life they have from you, and you become the walking dead.
9The Replacements
Can't Hardly Wait

A song about the dredges of addiction, and the lonely feeling that ensues. It's a dirty life to live, but there's always an escape. You just have to look for it.
10Jamey Johnson
High Cost of Living

When one succumbs to the pressures of every day life, they usually go searching for an escape. Unfortunately, some turn to drugs/alcohol, and become even more desperate for change. This song tells that story beautifully. Addiction isn't just about having a chemical dependency. It's also about finding one's way to go through life without having to feel anything. You want to be numb to everything outside of yourself. Unfortunately, that way of thinking leads to worse circumstances, and in most cases, a dreary death.
