20 Great Songs From 20 Great Artists
A list of the best songs from 20 of the albums by some of my favorite artists. Except for the top 5 with are in order of my most favorite songs, the remaining 15 songs are tunes that I can listen to repeatedly. The bottom 4 cd's are kind of a departure from the rest of the list in that they are hip-hop. |
1 | | All Shall Perish The Price of Existence
"The Day of Justice". Extremely hard choice because POE is one of the best albums ever,
but Day of Justice is the standout for me. If I could pick a 2nd favorite song from ASP I
would say Awaken the Dreamers, but that is a different CD. |
2 | | The Faceless Akeldama
"Leica". Another hard choice as I absolutely love Akeldama and Planetary
Duality, but Leica was one of the first songs by the Faceless that I listened
to on repeat constantly. A 2nd choice would be Xenochrist on Planetary
Duality. |
3 | | At the Throne of Judgment The Arcanum Order
"Horus Rises". This CD like the other 2 is full of great songs, but Horus Rises
is the best - the opening and closing are so catchy its ridiculous. 2nd choice
would be Martyrdom; Ruin of Gaya. |
4 | | Within the Ruins Creature
"Tractor Pull". While their newest album Invade is definitely better than
Creature overall, Tractor Pull is just too good not to put in my top 5. Ataxia and Roads from
Invade are growing on me though. |
5 | | Through the Eyes of the Dead Bloodlust
"Two inches from a Main Artery". I have a love/hate relationship with TTEOTD - Their first
EP and full album are two cd's that I listen to constantly, and I remember looking forward
to both Malice and Skepsis prior to their release, only to be disappointed that the band
had transformed yet again, and their sound with it (i've lost track which original members
are still there and which ones aren't). Malice and Skepsis are both pretty good, but the
sound just isn't the same. Regardless, Bloodlust is still a great CD and Two inches from a
Main artery is a great song |
6 | | Dethklok The Dethalbum II
"The Gears". While I've stopped watching the show for a few years now,
both albums by Dethklok are really incredible. It's hard for me to pick a
favorite but The Gears is a great one, so I'll go with that. A close 2nd would
be the Duncan Hills Coffee Jingle, but that song was never released on a
CD :) . |
7 | | Obscura Cosmogenesis
"Anticosmic Overload". It's hard for me to pick a favorite here between
Anticosmic Overload and Orbital Elements, but I decided on AO because it
was the first song I heard from Obscura, and I was instantly hooked. |
8 | | Woe of Tyrants Threnody
"Threnody". Epic song, great intro. |
9 | | August Burns Red Constellations
"Existence". Another hard choice because this album is fantastic all around. A
second choice would have to be Marinas Trench, but I can listen to the
whole album on repeat multiple times and find new things to appreciate
each time. |
10 | | A Breath Before Surfacing Death is Swallowed in Victory
"Cosmetic Abomination". This song is the shit. It starts out pretty damn heavy
and eventually makes it's way to being ridiculously catchy and head
banging, especially the solo. |
11 | | Bloodbath Nightmares Made Flesh
"Outnumbering the Day". While I don't really have a favorite album from Bloodbath, OtD is an ear
catching and great song. |
12 | | The Analyst Summoning the Wretched
"Throne of Phyrrus". Aside from the stupid interlude with light piano playing
over some type of monster moaning in the background to open this track,
once the song actually starts it hooks you until the end. a second choice
from this band would have to be Summoning the Wretched |
13 | | Conducting from the Grave When Legends Become Dust
"Marching Towards Extinction". I almost included CftG in my top 5 but i've only
been listening to them for a few months and am not sure where they stand
on my all time favs yet. The entire CD is really great and Marching towards
Extinction is the standout. |
14 | | Fleshgod Apocalypse Oracles
"Retrieving my Carcass". Oracles is an incredibly heavy and incredibly
awesome CD. Retrieving is the best from the cd, with In Honor of Reason
being a close 2nd, especially due to the ironic and kickass intro. |
15 | | Wretched The Exodus of Autonomy
"Exodus of Autonomy". While I love the whole album, the instrumental Exodus of
Autonomy is my favorite - the spanish guitar part is so badass I had to pick it.
Birthing Sloth from their new CD is growing on me as well |
16 | | Veil Of Maya The Common Man's Collapse
"Its not Safe to Swim Today". Incredible song, great album, too bad [id]
sucked |
17 | | GZA Liquid Swords
"4th Chamber". And now for a little change of pace - 4 of my favorite Rap songs
from my favorite rap cd's. Its hard to pick a favorite from this album but 4th
chamber is the one I listen to the most, the beat is ridiculously awesome and
GZA's flow is sick. Liquid Swords a close 2nd. |
18 | | Wu-Tang Clan Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)
"Bring Da Ruckus". I am a huge Wu-Tang fan, and while they definitely had some great singles
throughout their career, in my opinion no CD surpassed their freshman effort
Enter the Wu-Tang. Bring Da Ruckas is without a doubt the best song on
there. |
19 | | Outkast Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik
"Player's Ball". Like Wu-Tang I prefer the older Outkast cd's to the newer.
Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik is my favorite cd by them, and player's ball the best
track. |
20 | | Dead Prez Let's Get Free
"Hip-Hop". While RBG is a better album overall, and some of their lyrics are a little over-
the-top politically, Hip-hip's beat is so great I had to put it on this list. |
