| Bands I Say You Need To Hear In January...no Exceptions!
Give these bands just a listen. There are only five, so it's not an overload or anything. Just go search on myspace and you should be able to find almost all of these bands. | 1 | | Pyramaze Legend of the Bone Carver
To be honest, my friend showed me this band sometime around 3 in the morning. I was tired and irritable, so I barely paid attention and thought it was banal. The next day, I gave it a closer listen and discovered a power-metal band that takes Iron Maiden and Metallica and shoves a cheese coated boot up its ass. Surprisingly enough, it's pretty kickass. Check out the song What Lies Beyond. Awesome. | 1 | | Pyramaze Legend of the Bone Carver

I just caught on to this band. It's been a while since I've heard a song and been instantly enthralled. But A Scream to Express the Hate of a Race (long title) did just that. Easily one of the coolest Death Metal acts to come from recent months. | 2 | | Mirrorthrone Carriers of Dust

An oldy, being almost 4 years old at this point, but still pertinent. This is the album that turned most people on to Norther. Awesome mix of Black Metal tones and death metal production with enough of a hint of flare through keyboard swells and some awesome soloing. This is one of those albums you listen to through and through, never once compelled to reach for the skip button. Plus, they do an awesome cover of Europe's Final Countdown...so, what's not to love? | 3 | | Norther Mirror of Madness

Wow. What Mirrorthrone did to me for Death Metal, this Finnish quintet did for Black Metal. I honestly don't think I've ever heard catchier Black Metal that didn't sacrifice ferocity for hooks. All I ask is that you trust me on this one, because, FUCK is this an awesome album. Winternight Tragedies is on equal level with this one, too. | 4 | | Catamenia Location: Cold

I'm sure anyone reading this already knows about Dragonforce. They've made quite to name for themselves this past year. This album, however, harkens back to 04, when they were rampaging in England and Europe. Yes, it's cheesy. Yes, it's masturbatory. But fucking Hell is it an awesome record. I've heard every criticism from "repetitive" to "pussies", so you can't shock me by dissing them. What shocks me are the faces I see from supposed "death metal only" fans, when they hear some of the blast beats and insane runs from the guitarists. Power Metal fan or not, this is one band that deserves to be looked into. Especially if you like fast metal. | 5 | | Dragonforce Sonic Firestorm
