Melodic Death Masterpieces

I am a massive, huge, insane fan of Melodic Death Metal... best music to ever be recorded... well that might be a bit too much but I really do love and appreciate it. Here is a list of the 10 albums every Melodic Death Metal fan should own.
1Dark Tranquillity
The Gallery

Melodic heaven. Dark Tranquillity's finest work. Melancholic atmosphere meets stunning guitar leads. The emotion and fury poured into every song is indescribable.
Best Pick- ...Of Melancholy Burning
2In Flames
The Jester Race

In Flames are considered to be the godfathers of melodic death, a title I think should go to Dark Tranquillity, but this CD is a masterpiece nonetheless.
Best Pick- December Flower
3Insomnium
Above The Weeping World

Pure, brutal, melodic metal. Not to mention the friggin insane vocals. Pure ecstasy to listen to, if you haven't checked out Insomnium, do it.
Best Pick- Mortal Share
4Kalmah
Swampsong

The vocals may not be to everyone's taste, but the riffing here is sure to please everyone.
Best Pick- Heroes To Us
5At The Gates
Slaughter Of The Soul

No introduction needed, this is a given on any list of the best melodic death metal, a classic.
Best Pick- Slaughter Of The Soul
6Children Of Bodom
Hate Crew Deathroll

Another one with no intro needed. Children Of Bodom nail this one in the head with the great riffing and the sweet backing of keyboards.
Best Pick- Lil' Bloodred Riding Hood
7Arch Enemy
Anthems Of Rebellion

Often an overlooked band, these men (and girl) from Sweden throw down the riffs and Angela's crazy screms like its a walk in the park. This one is one of their classics, with some awesome songs.
Best Pick- Dead Eyes See No Future
8Carcass
Swansong

How could I make a list without yet another forefather of melodic death... Carcass' farewell album is my pick for their best.
Best Pick- Black Star
9Scar Symmetry
Symmetric In Design

Another overlooked band, Scar Symmetry has a vocalist which reminds me a lot of Insomnium's... but these guys actually have clean singing, which is used less here than in their other, not quite as good CD... worth a check though, great riffs to be found here.
Best Pick- Chaosweaver
10Opeth
Blackwater Park

Ok...ok....ok... they're more progressive metal than anything, but I really couldn't resist to put them on here. Definetly an aquired taste, once you are used to the type of metal they play, nothing will ever be quite as good.
Best Pick- The Funeral Portrait
