06.02.10 | k and since people are still getting back to me, here is what tomorrow looks like so far...
nu-metalcore (witchxrapist)
Power Metal (Poet)
Hard Rock (BigHans)
Modern Hip-Hop (Deviant/Bulldog)
and i think thats all for now, I need 9 genres to post another one, so if anyone has any genres they are a pro at, feel free to send me the 10 essentials for a genre that hasnt been done yet |
Emim
06.02.10 | So many great picks on here. You might want to switch out one of the last two for that Limp Bizkit album I added. |
Jethro42
06.02.10 |
#62 is more like electic prog rock, imo

06.02.10 | So many good albums |
AngelofDeath
06.02.10 | Knew Balls would have good input and was really pleased with Lambda's picks. |
Baphomet
06.02.10 | nice work again. So many albums yo get... |
Inveigh
06.02.10 | sweet list, especially that indie rap part ;-)
nu metal list is good Emim, although I'd have included some Sevendust of course.. tough to pick an album to take off though. Maybe Hybrid Theory if we looked at it more as alternative or something, I dunno. Good list either way. |
Jethro42
06.02.10 | post rock and post metal are very well done |
sniper
06.02.10 | This is a real good list. Hardcore next plz :) |
theacademy
06.02.10 | list is tits.
@emim why POD over Sevendust? Just curious i think u did a gread job. 91 - 93 are as essential to nu metal as anything. |
theacademy
06.02.10 | also incubus/rage are more funk metal than nu metal, imo... |
Inveigh
06.02.10 | oh shit didn't notice P.O.D., yeah I think Sevendust's Home or Animosity or even s/t would be more essential, but again it's a good list so I'm not complaining. I just really like Sevendust haha |
klap
06.02.10 | when are you doing pop? |
FadeToBlack
06.02.10 | KILL did a good job for thrash |
luci
06.02.10 | The black metal list sucks, sorry Balls. Where is Burzum? Darkthrone? Mayhem? Wolves In The Throne Room? |
AngelofDeath
06.02.10 | I second theacademy on his point about Incubus and Rage, especially on Fungus Amongus. |
Emim
06.02.10 | "@emim why POD over Sevendust? Just curious i think u did a gread job. 91 - 93 are as essential to nu metal as anything."
I considered putting Sevendust on there (definitely would be there if it was 11 or 12 long) but I felt that the rest more embodied what Nu-Metal was. As for rage and Incubus, I felt that Incubus falls more on the Nu side of things. And rage is more so than that. |
FadeToBlack
06.02.10 | yea needs to be unoriginal and be liek
Transilvanian Hunger
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

Transilvanian Hunger

Transilvanian Hunger
Bergtatt
Transilvanian Hunger
cos theyre ythe only bm i know lolololol |
AngelofDeath
06.02.10 | Every album Balls listed you need to own. They are just as much necessities as the second-wave classics. And don't lump WItTR in with those bands either. |
AnotherBrick
06.02.10 | damnit, i forgot Deviants Electronica |
Emim
06.02.10 | Oh and thanks @ Inveigh. |
sniper
06.02.10 | Funk metal falls under nu metal anyway I think. It could just as easily be called funky nu-metal. |
Emim
06.02.10 | "Funk metal falls under nu metal anyway I think. It could just as easily be called funky nu-metal."
There's really not much difference. Nu-Metal at its core is just diverse genres (Reggae for POD, Funk for Incubus, Hip-hop for Limp Bizkit, etc.) mixed with Metal. |
LegendofPittman
06.02.10 | I would have liked to seen Zao in Metalcore, but this is a great idea. |
AnotherBrick
06.02.10 | ya i dont really know if anyone else will refer to these lists, but sounded like a fun idea |
Inveigh
06.02.10 | I remember when Sevendust first came out and people were calling them funk metal |
Athom
06.02.10 | poet is gonna fuck up that power metal list. it should just be "Nightfall in Middle Earth" posted 10 times, but he's gonna put something gay on it. |
AnotherBrick
06.02.10 | haha redsky. you can check my shoutbox if you wanna see what he chose |
Emim
06.02.10 | "I remember when Sevendust first came out and people were calling them funk metal"
Ha ha ha, that's funny.
I wonder if I could've gotten away with putting FNM's The Real Thing on here... |
AngelofDeath
06.02.10 | Also, I'd like to nominate myself to contribute for folk metal, viking metal, neo-European folk, or even classical. |
SlightlyEpic
06.02.10 | Who do you intend to do hardcore? Also will you be splitting it up into modern hardcore and old school hardcore? |
Athom
06.02.10 | ugh wrong iced earth and blind guardian albums... |
Inveigh
06.02.10 | well I mean you could just make a separate funk metal list and replace Incubus with Sevendust on the nu metal list (and maybe Rage with SoaD). Funk metal could have RATM, Incubus, FNM (it would have to be The Real Thing or earlier though), RHCP, Fishbone, Living Colour, Infectious Grooves, Funk Dubious etc.
also, AnotherBrick, you should enlist redsky for a sludge/doom list and maybe someone else (SteelErectedB4u8er maybe) for a southern metal one. Just some ideas to fill out part III |
AnotherBrick
06.02.10 | epic - buckfutter messaged me about hardcore and said he was gonna work on a list, you got someone in mind i should ask? and as far as splitting it up, i guess it just depends on what gets submitted to me |
FadeToBlack
06.02.10 | sludge doom:
Dopesmoker
Dopethrone
Dopechair
Dopebush
Dopecock

Lambda
06.02.10 | Sick list man, I'd love to contribute again if you're interested. Just tell me the genre :) |
Emim

Idk, making simply a Funk list would work, but I think that Nu-Metal and Funk Metal are so close it wouldn't be worth trying to split them up.

SlightlyEpic
06.02.10 | okay that's cool i trust pit with his hardcore for the most part |

06.02.10 | 14,15,16,17,18,22,24,29,30,35,36,42,44,52,54,57,58,59,60,61,62,81,96,98
96 is not nu metal. its rap-metal. there are actually distinct differences. |
Emim
06.02.10 | If nothing else, it was the forebear to Nu-Metal, and the differences are negligible. |
FadeToBlack
06.02.10 | yeah its fine where it is. well i would say its alt/funk metal, but pretty much the same thing as nu metal |
Poet
06.02.10 | obligatory

06.02.10 | Nu-Metal section needs some Nothingface, and Spineshank |
Emim
06.02.10 | Idk if I would call those essential though. |
Poet
06.02.10 | nu metal needs some SOAD |
TheSpirit
06.02.10 | I like Balls black metal list. There are far more essentials than just darkthrone mayhem etc... |
LG
06.02.10 | And Korn is? Em my son I think I'm gonna have to take you back to school. |
Emim
06.02.10 | Yes, Korn is essential to the genre.
@Poet:
SOAD was at the last spot, but I switched them out for LP, as blasphemous as that is. |
TheSpirit
06.02.10 | should get rasputin to do FUNERAL DOOM |

06.02.10 | Nu metal section needs more NICKELBACK |
SlightlyEpic
06.02.10 | nickelback belongs in the buttrock category |
LG
06.02.10 | Nickleback belongs in a burning building with no exit. |
Yoshizoid
06.02.10 | i like the underground/indie rap and metalcore sections. a lot.
the nu metal one is great too, tho i'd switch RATM with SOAD's s/t or toxicity |
Emim
06.02.10 | It was on there originally, but it seemed out of place. I think AnotherBrick should have an Alternative Metal section too. |
vanderb0b
06.02.10 | Inclusion of Likin Park and lack of System of a Down is odd. Aside from that, cool list. |
Emim
06.02.10 | See my last comment.
And Linkin Park is ABSOLUTELY essential. |

Counterfeit
06.02.10 | Significant Other is much more "essential" in my opinion. 3DBY is awesome, but Significant Other is just flawless. |
foreverendeared
06.02.10 | you'll definitely need a "pop" section in the next list |
foreverendeared
06.02.10 | also, I think people have forgotten about this: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/feature.php?id=5110 |
Emim
06.02.10 | "Significant Other is much more "essential" in my opinion. 3DBY is awesome, but Significant Other is just flawless."
It was one or the other, and I prefer 3DBY more than SO. |
Counterfeit
06.02.10 | Yeah I can see that. Good list, though. |
Poet
06.02.10 | "also, I think people have forgotten about this: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/feature.php?id=511"
wow forgot about that. totally remember the hooplah that went around during then about it. |

06.03.10 | lol ya i totally forgot about that as well |

06.03.10 | would've put other stuff but I didn't want the Rosetta and The Ocean fans to get mad
got a huge post-metal list coming tomorrow you gotta see it |
Mordecai.
06.03.10 | nice dude. yeah i think The Ocean are a tiny bit overrated. Their albums are just to bloated. They are indeed awesome though. looking forward to your list then. Have you heard of a band called Radare? Their album 'Inifnite Regress' is some damn fine post-metal. |
Lambda
06.03.10 | Metalcore was great, I might have put Between The Buried And Me - Colors on there though (if they even qualify as metalcore, I'm not 100% sure). What did everyone think of the experimental section? |
Mordecai.
06.03.10 | It was great. Good to see The sound of Animals Fighting on there. I probably would of added something by Toby Driver like Choirs of the Eye or Part the Second. Colors is pretty much prog metal, but I was going to add The Silent Circus. Underoath seemed more appropriate though. |
jesusjuice1179
06.03.10 | switch the mono album to Hymn to The Immortal Wind and the sigur ros album to ( ) and then add Hammock to the post-rock list and i think that would better sum it up |
AnotherBrick
06.03.10 | so if i was too much of a girl-man to like jane doe should i just give up on metalcore? |
Mordecai.
06.03.10 | pretty much dude. just check out the rest of the stuff i rec'd and see how you go |
somberlain
06.03.10 | Great job Inveigh it warms my heart to see you rec 'Personal Journals' would've liked to see 'Rebel Yellow' though
'Funcrusher Plus' > 14 btw |
sin69
06.03.10 | Nu-metal list is well done.. Only what Counterfeit said Significant Other is way more essential than 3DBY'all.. How is Korn's Korn less essential than Follow The Leader since it kinda only idk started the genre? I don't really consider SOAD to be nu-metal so thx for not putting them on the list.. Also POD's Satellite IMO is more essential and I consider only Slipknot's first two albums to be nu-metal.. But hey the list is great.. |
sin69
06.03.10 | Thrash list: no Anthrax but two Megadeth's?? |
Inveigh
06.03.10 | somberlain: as much as I love Rebel Yellow, I just didn't think it was necessarily an essential album of the sub-genre, at least not more so than the ones I listed. It was close between Fantastic Damage and Funcrusher Plus, I'm just more familiar with Damage I guess. |
NeutralThunder12
06.03.10 | fucking nu-metal. And Mono's best IS You are There, possible 5 for me down the road. Anyway, most of this is shit but whatever. |
Emim
06.03.10 | "Nu-metal list is well done.. Only what Counterfeit said Significant Other is way more essential than 3DBY'all.. 3DBY was more personal preference, Korn's FTL I feel is more accessible, and P.O.D.'s FEOS has a bit more variety than Satellite does. Slipknot is kinda a Nu-Thrash (yuck) type band, but Vol. 3 still has some very prevalent Nu-Metal influences. |
LG
06.03.10 | kORN's garbage. And I don't know what universe you hail from, but they are and shall always remain as such. |
somberlain
06.04.10 | Inveigh: yea Rebel Yellow isn't essential I get it
Funcrusher Plus though was a VERY important album as far is underground hip-hop is concerned and it's just flat out better than Fan Dam but if you disagree with that maybe you should give Funcrusher another spin ;) |
