Athletes And Guitar Riffs

Top Ten favorite Athletes of all time, and ten kick ass guitar riffs.
1Kirby Puckett
Centerfield - Minnesota Twins

My childhood idol. I could care less about the struggles he had late in life, this guy was the face of an entire fucking state for ten years. 2 World Series Championships, batting titles, world series MVP's, league MVP's, fastest righthanded hitter to 2,000 hits. Dude was a legend. RIP.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Ted Nugent - Stranglehold
2Emmitt Smith
RB - Dallas Cowboys

Wasn't the fastest or the flashiest, but was a true warrior. Anybody who wants to criticize can take a look at his records: All Time leading NFL Rusher, all time leader in Touchdowns scored, 2 MVP's, 3 time Super Bowl Champion, and suck on it.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Saxon - Wheels of Steel
3Reggie Miller
Shooting Guard - Indiana Pacers

Greatest Three Point shooter of all time, and one of the game's greatest trash talkers. Superb clutch shooter who lacked the supporting cast to go all the way.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Megadeth - Holy Wars
4Michael Jordan
Shooting Guard - Chicago Bulls

Needs no introduction as the GOAT. The reason he is on the list is I worshipped him more than Puckett until he retired the first time. I went with the Pacers after that, and couldn't bring myself to switch back to the Bulls, although I always rooted for them outside of the Pacers.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Master of Puppets
5Walter Payton
Running Back - Chicago Bears

I was 6 when he retired, but he encompasses almost every initial football memory I have. Punishing runner and a true class act. RIP
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Pantera - Regular People
6Tiger Woods
Golfer, PIMP

I've always been a huge Tiger fanboy, so I'm not going to leave him now. He will get his shit together and over-take Nicholas for Majors won, mark it down.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin
7Larry Bird
Forward - Boston Celtics

My first basketball memories were of the Showtime Lakers vs the Blue Collar Celtics. My dad was Bird fanboy #1. I pretended to like the Lakers just to piss him off, but I could recognize even at a young age that Bird was the epitome of what a basketball player should be.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Judas Priest - Dissident Aggressor
8Joe Mauer
Catcher - Minnesota Twins

This is purely a homer pick, as I'm a huge Twins fan, but Mauer has taken Puckett's place as the face of the state. One of the best hitters and defenders in the game, and a true good guy. Took a discount to stay home. Lock for the Hall of Fame barring a career ending injury.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Eric Clapton - Layla
9Troy Aikman
Quarterback - Dallas Cowboys

Fuck the haters. 3 time Super Bowl Champ, and one of the most accurate passers in history. The reason there was a hole in Texas Stadium was so God could watch his team, and Troy Aikman, play football.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Black Sabbath - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
10Kevin Garnett
Forward - Timberwolves/Celtics

Nobody was happier for KG than me after he won the title in Boston. After watching him labor on atrocious T-Wolves teams for a decade, always giving an unmatched level of intensity, he deserved it.
Kick Ass Guitar Riff: Van Halen - Aint Talkin Bout Love
