Qwe's Nostalgia

As I leave Japan after all these years to another phase of my life, gotta pay homage to the songs that were extremely important in various stages of my life till now. yes, some of these are going to be crap. This is in roughly chronological order. the top is old qwe, so start at the bottom.
1Lady GaGa
Just Dance

The symbol of clubbing in Tokyo among international school students and
the various clubs that cater to them.
2DJ Ozma
????EVERY??

The symbol of karaoke in Tokyo among international school students
3Converge
Fault and Fracture

Got me through the worst breakup ever.
4Deadmau5
Arguru

Saw this guy at a club in Tokyo called Ageha. Got all his stuff afterwards.
Arguru is his best song.
5Neurosis
Burn

The day I realised that there could be completely unboring post metal. The
explosion after the bridge is just....aigaijkbailvbiabviaeb
6Ulver
I Troldskog Faren Vild

Intro to black metal. Still a fantastic song/album
7Opeth
The Moor

Got me into real death metal eventually. I liked them instantly, and this
song in particular struck a chord with me.
8Sigur Ros
Untitled 3

First post rock song ever. First post rock band ever. I'd never heard music
like this before.
9Isis
In Fiction

Remains one of the best post metal songs ever recorded, even if the album
it's from is meh. First growled vocals ever.
10Off Minor
The Heat Death of the Universe

First screamo ever. Hated it. Listened more. Hated it. Listened more.
Listened again. Loved it.
11Radiohead
Airbag

First ever Radiohead song. The opening riff was unlike anything I'd ever
heard before. I ate it up. This song is responsible for all of my subsequent
musical discovery.
12Dead Kennedys
Kill The Poor

Dad showed me them. I loved the musicality and the lyrics and the swagger
in the vocals. Was much better than all the punk I'd heard up till then.
Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables remains my favourite punk album of all
time
13Zombie Nation
Kernkraft 400

Whenever I hear this song I am reminded of my old high school's gym,
where this song was played during basketball matches at half time
14Nas
It Ain't Hard To Tell

Became my favourite ever rap song. stumbled across it on a music forum
looking for something else. Best luck ever. The lyrical genius in this song is
astounding. His flow completely entranced me.
15Coldplay
Amsterdam

The piano part and vocals and lyrics all work. a typical coldplay song, but
the best one they ever wrote
16Blink-182
All The Small Things

Fell in love with blink. Have never fallen out of love with them. First heard
this during a super soaker fight in Australia, but never got into them until I
heard it for a second time at Karaoke in Japan.
17Gorillaz
Every Planet We Reach Is Dead

The beat to this song is so cool, as are Damon's vocals. Their soulfulness
really hit home in this song. I was heavily into Gorillaz when I moved from
Aus to Japan.
18Pink Floyd
The Great Gig In The Sky

My favourite Floyd song for ages, and also my first. The vocals just KILL.
Overwhelming song. completely overwhelming.
19Black Sabbath
Paranoid

My dad recommended this to me because theyre one of his faves of all time.
Opened my eyes to one of the greatest bands ever.
20Nine Inch Nails
The Great Collapse

This was so cool when I first heard it. I loved the pulse it had to it.
21Korn
Did My Time

The only Korn song I ever listened to actually. I listened to it SO MUCH
though. I liked the part where he goes "I DID MY TIME" roar.
22System of a Down
Prison Song

First legitimately heavy piece of music ever. I liked his voice and I liked
learning the words so I could sing as fast as he could. Start of my "heavy"
phase
23Eminem
Sing For The Moment

First rap album. Eminem Show. I bought it because everyone else was
buying it. I used to think the guy going "COME ON" in the background in the
chorus was Lleyton Hewitt.
24Usher
U Remind Me

I thought it was cool how he wrote U instead of You. This song was on
CONSTANT replay for awhile. Holy crap how did I like this song.
25Linkin Park
Papercut

This was the theme song for Gundam Wing on Toonami! If anyone
understood that let me know.
26Nickelback
How You Remind Me

The only song Nickelback ever wrote. They've been reinventing it ever
since. I still like this song actually.
27Creed
Higher

Yes I used to like this song. Fuck you. I used to listen to this song all the
time and when it came on the radio I'd be like THIS IS CREED! and my dad
would be like...uhhhh yeah...
28Bob Dylan
The Times They Are A Changin'

First Dylan song. When I was little the voice didn't actually bother me. I
didn't understand the lyrics fully, but his phrasing hit home.
29Marvin Gaye
I Heard It Through The Grape Vine

When I found out just how good the human voice could get. This guy's
voice just blew my mind. Still does.
30Joe Jackson
Is She Really Going Out With Him?

Dad had a lot of vinyls, and Joe Jackson was always spinning. This song is
so catchy and his voice is perfect.
31Queen
Now I'm Here

ANOTHER road trip one. I love the vocals, and how they go "now I'm here,
now i'm there" switching from left to right speaker. when i was small i
thought that was the fucking tits. I've known all the words to this since i
was about 6
325ive
If Ya Gettin' Down

I thought all other boy bands were pussies. These guys seemed more...I
dunno...credible. No idea why I thought that but it's true. First song I saw
on a music channel as a video.
33The Wiggles
Big Red Car

Forgot about this one. should be the earliest but whatever. Self-
explanatory. I was an anglo middle class Australian kid. I watched the
wiggles. I still have "Wake Up, Geoff!" on VCR
34The Beatles
Paperback Writer

Another road trip song. My bro and I loved imitating the opening. Whole song
made it seem like we were going to get there faster.
35Crowded House
Weather With You

Life in suburban USA=lots of driving. Recurring Dream was one of the more
popular CDs we had in the car. This was my favourite song off the CD and
remains my favourite Crowded House song.
