12.11.09 | ummmmm...... what? lol |
intothepit83
12.11.09 | thank you, kind sir. i'll have to disagree, respectfully, of course. just because a song has some odd time signatures in it doesn't mean it's mathcore |
intothepit83
12.11.09 | and you call me retarded, yet it's still a nice list..... ok |
intothepit83
12.11.09 | really? are you sure about that? show me proof, i tell you! i want proof! |
Bullitt
12.11.09 | The fact that most of BTBAM'S metal pieces make no sense at all and follow no course of direction definitely makes it sound like mathcore. But I think it's more out of not being able to write as apposed to being technical like a mathcore band. |
FistfulOfSteel
12.11.09 | bunch o fuckin genre nazi's over here. seriously, what the fuck difference does it make if something is hardcore influenced mathcore with odd signatures and medodies or mathy-metalcore with hardcore blah blah blah who gives a shit |
intothepit83
12.11.09 | apparently, fistfulofsteel, you don't come on here much, do you? |
crestacious
12.11.09 | Bullitt:
that doesnt even really make sense. BTBAM's downfall is placing too much emphasis on being technical. This has of course, on their later albums, proved to detract some from the songwriting yes. But from a purely musical standpoint it is just as if not more "musically technical" than what most people consider "mathcore." Heck, half the people out there calling stuff "mathcore" and talking about weird time signatures are really just talking about bands using standard 4/4, 3/4, 6/8 etc, but placing emphasis on the off beat and stuff so that it sounds more technical. |
Bullitt
12.11.09 | I don't really know my "mathcore" very well, but then again I don't do the whole sub-genre thing. But I was just saying that I don't think BTBAM have earned the title of being technical just because they stop and start every three seconds. Which I guess we both agree on. |
Burn2Burn
12.11.09 | mathcore lol what a stupid ass name for a genre. i can guarantee you that 99.9999 percent of bands will not refer to themselves as mathcore. |

12.11.09 | It even sounds stupid to say, I hate sub-genres. |

12.11.09 | Yeah, one of my pet peeves is when people argue about this kind of shit. Categorizing bands so rigidly is pointless and stupid |
GBJ
12.11.09 | uggh, mathcore is a phantom genre, and the only thing I would really list as "mathcore" here is 4, despite the mathcore influences of 1 and 2.
Aside from 4, the Arusha Accord - Echo Verses is more mathy than all of these. |

12.11.09 | Bullitt:
I think we definitely agree on some levels. I guess what I was trying to say is that a lot of bands people consider "technical" do exactly what you were just talking about. They just orchestrate stops and starts on weird beats, but many times the parts are still in 4/4 or something, yet kids hear all the stop starts and think its in a weird time signature.
However, what I was trying to convey is that BTBAM is actually a band who DOES utilize unique time signatures and the transition between them. They are one of the bands that get lumped into metalcore/whatevercore that actually do incorporate real musical technicality in their chord progressions, time signatures, etc. |
crestacious
12.11.09 | But yea, arguing about sub-genres is silly :P |
Dreamsoffew
12.11.09 | Oh look, another stupid genre debate. Seriously guys, this is pathetic.
Stop worrying about what niche in your music collection you wanna
file it away in and just enjoy the damn music!!
Do you think the bands care what genre they're classified as? |
