Nothing Lasts...But Nothing Is Lost
Psychedelic music after the 1960?s to a long strange trip that landed some hippies in India. A healthy combination of 60?s psychedelic rock, LSD, Indian music, LSD, and technological mixing innovation helped create Psytrance, and make hippies love LSD more. This album is a culmination of techno danceability mixed with what I can only explain as a massive mixing board making love to a magical mushroom. A big plus, especially for me, is the fact that the album showcases a mind-blowing ability to combine beautiful melodies with Indian music, flute and techno....and LSD

The Weirding
Astra fall into a very odd category with only a few other bands, the best way to describe them if you mixed Pink Floyd with Pink Floyd....? So yes, this is very the psychedelic music of the 70?s but done today. If you can imaging Pink Floyd?s more psychedelic leanings from the 60?s with the grandiosity of their 70?s work then that gives you a pretty good idea of Astra.

Void
For those fans of extreme metal comes Intronaut. On this album in particular there is a definite use of sudden changes from their extreme dissonance metal to melodic psychedelic jazz sections. Their bassist, Joe Lester, drives the band forward in their metal section with technical metal precision, and on the turn of a dime switches to free form jazz soloing in their psychedelic noodling. For the uninitiated, the opener ?Monolithic Vulgarity? will seem jarring at first, but if you keep with it, there are moments of extreme psychedelic splendour.

The Cosmic Game
This psychedelic instalment comes in the form of another variant of a the dude behind a DJ set with a head full of mescaline. But this time its two dudes and their spinning tracks for hip twenty-somethings in a trendy absinth bar! This album sees Thievery Corporation at the height of their exploration of psychedelic sounds with Brazilian Samba, Salsa, Raga and Sitar thrown in for good measure.

Vertebrae
Another metal entry in this list, Vertebrae is Black Metal band Enslaved tenth studio album. So its Black Metal, a genre categorized by pummelling blast beats, dissonant buzz saw guitars and screeching guitars, but ah ha! Enslaved decide to embrace their progressive and psychedelic influences (Pink Floyd....again) to blend the two into a surprisingly cohesive album. There is an added attraction for those not familiar or liking to the Black Metal genre with the use of clean vocals (but manly, grim and kult vocals) with Grutle Kjellson traditional screechy gargling vocals. Also, the guitar solos are David Gilmour dressed up in corpse paint.
