11.07.09 | wow, relax dude. it's not like you asked me for an in-depth description in asking me what i thought of it.
anyway, the album, as i said, is amazing. ballboy are more given to simplicity than complexity, but the songwriting here is immaculate. the music ranges from simple acoustic guitar + vocals to epic soundscapes almost approaching a post-rock sound, but retaining the same spirit throughout.
the lyrics are another important part, ranging from some of the most moving and impassioned words i've heard ("A Day in Space" or "I Hate Scotland") to playful and humorous. the voice of the lead singer takes them to a whole new plateau, with his distinctive accent and cadence. |
