05.01.10 Soundtracks To My Boredom08.22.09 Metal Makes Me Happy

Metal Makes Me Happy

Just some of my fave metal albums. Feel free to comment or offer thoughts, and remember, these are MY faves, so don't tell me I'm wrong or gay for liking such-and-such a band. As far as I'm aware, musical preference has no impact on sexuality.
1Opeth
Blackwater Park

Simply blew me away. To me, the best music is that which transports you to another world, and this beautifully savage masterpiece does that every single time I listen.
2Scar Symmetry
Holographic Universe

It was close between this and Pitch Black Progress, but HU just edges a win because the songs are all brilliantly structured and performed, with one of my fave metal vocalists of all time.
3Soilwork
Natural Born Chaos

I know Soilwork come in for a lot of grief, but I love 'em, and this is my definite fave. I plan to have No More Angels played at my funeral.
4In Flames
The Jester Race

Again, IF are a band that divide opinion with the directions they've explored, but Jester is a classic melo-death masterpiece.
5Fear Factory
Obsolete

Yes, Demanufacture is considered their best work, and by god, I love that album too, but frankly, any album that Edgecrusher appears on is gonna win love from me.
6 DevilDriver
The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand

This is an album which quite simply shreds. Dez done good. Who said Coal Chamber?
7Slipknot
Slipknot

'Uhhh, u liek SlipKnot u iz a FAGGIT!' Shut up. I love this album. And no-one will ever convince me otherwise.
8Arch Enemy
Doomsday Machine

After the superb Anthems of Rebellion, AE come back with an even better album, full of catchy riffs, epic solos, and lots of creamy goodness.
9Candlemass
Candlemass

Great for when you don't want your metal played at 170BPM.
10Nevermore
This Godless Endeavor

And you thought the Scandinavians had the monopoly on twin-guitar shredding epics?
11Lacuna Coil
Unleashed Memories

Ok, I may be stretching the definition of 'metal' here in some people's eyes, but this is LC's best work in my humble opinion. Cristina's voice at it's best.
12Soilwork
Figure Number Five

Yes, I love it. And I don't care if that's not cool.
13Spineshank
The Height of Callousness

Just remember, from the horror that was nu-metal, there were a few diamonds in the rough.
14Amorphis
Silent Waters

Just beautiful.
15Children of Bodom
Are You Dead Yet?

Cracking album that doesn't give a flying fuck.
16At The Gates
Slaughter of the Soul

Archetypal melo-death.
17Nightwish
Dark Passion Play

Never really dug NW when they had Tarja whats-her-name squawking up front, but I really dig this.
18Opeth
Ghost Reveries

Just rammed full of 'Pethy goodness.
19 Chimaira
Impossibility of Reason

Really, really pissed off - great for defusing a bad mood.
20Dimmu Borgir
Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia

The only black metal band I can stand. This album is evil and knows it.
