| 5 Best Burzum Songs
While it is hard to distinguish individual Burzum songs, given the fact that they are building blocks to something greater, I nonetheless tried and came up with this. | 1 | Burzum Det Som En Gang Var
This is one of the greatest pieces of music throughout human history. It's full of emotion, yet so devoid of feeling. This is, mind you, not some random emo crap, but more of a reflection on Varg's own goals and the failure to reach them (with the full story being revealed throughout the course of the album, which is why I mentioned Burzum albums need to be taken as a whole). Musically speaking, it is just superb. Everything is so carefully calculated and the song is constructed that nothing would sound off. This is done so perfectly that Vargs lack as an instrumentalist is completely hidden. | 2 | Jesus' Tod
This is the best example of what Varg can accomplish with so little, since there are what, 3 or 4 riffs in the entire song, and the drum pattern don't change at all (apart from the shift from hi-hat to ride cymbal). Yet it all sounds so entrancing, impossible to turn away from. The fuzzy production of Filosofem makes it feel so ethreal and uncommon, and maybe it's even for the best that his tortured shrieks got buried under it. Oh how many times have I sung (screamed) this songs lyrics out with my friends in a thick forest. | 3 | Tomhet
Easily Burzums best keyboard track, Tomhet (emptiness) delivers what it promises. Being the conclusion to the story of "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss", it can be interprated as grudging defeat, a quiet acceptance, or abandoning hope altogether of ever achieveing a better world. | 4 | Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Being the second part of the story told on the album with the same name, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is an unbelievably aggressive and angry song. Its music shows that anger it three different episodes, easily recognizable by the drum patterns. Firstly, the pumping and gathering anger at the world, the sadness and lament of the previous track turns into bitter wrath. Then with the furious entrance of two bass drums, that is all unleashed into this incredibly rage-filled onslaught of sound. After the horrible deed is done, that madness is appeased for a while, but it is still there, in the third part, ready to jump out again (in the next song of the album, it will, not to return). | 5 | My Journey To The Stars
There is a somewhat happy feel to this song, maybe a sense of accomplishment. This seems logical, given the lyrics and title of it. Riffing is done superbly, never boring the listener, with fast tremolo picked riffs and drowsy, ringing ones. Vargs vocals are top-notch as always (although I might be in a minority claiming this). | |

04.04.09 | I know I cut myself every day to that :(
WHY NANCY WHY | Eakflanderyof
04.04.09 | Inn I Slottet Fra Droemmen should be on here and Tomhet should not. Good list otherwise. Jesus Tod is my favorite Burzum song by a mile and I feel pretty much the same way about it. | karina
04.04.09 | just picked up a burzum shirt at hot topic, proceeded to tell my mom i hate her and then did several spinkicks | quaazi
04.04.09 | I though about Inn I Slottet Fra Droemmen, but I figured I should honour some keyboard tracks as well. That 25 minute thing is obvious overkill, so Tomhet was the best choice. | Lunarfall
04.04.09 | hvis lyset tar oss is horrible replace with inn i slottet fra droemmen | shindip
04.04.09 | 3 FTW | Hawks
04.04.09 | I think 2 might be my favorite here. | Yazz_Flute
04.05.09 | I'd replace 4 and 5 with Dunkelheit and Key to the Gate but you got it right other than tht. | BillEco
04.07.09 | Gj for tomhet.
I would most likely have dunkelheit instead of hvis lyset tar oss |
