Top 5 Compilations Of 2008
1Hot Water Music
Till the Wheels Fall Off

Having never been a huge HWM fan, I was skeptical picking up an odds-and-ends collection, but in the end was quite satisfied. There are plenty of weaker songs here, especially the Epitaph B-Sides toward the beginning, but the mass of cool tunes allows this to succeed. As a side note, the competition this year for comp of the year was rather weak...
2 Big D & The Kids Table
Strictly Mixed & Mashed

The remix record. I thought I was going to hate this, but again was pleasantly surprised. A lot of the remixes remain fairly true to the originals, but there were several that barely resembled their origin. Some good reggae, dancehall, dub, rap, ska, punk-ish fun.
3 The Anniversary
Devil On Our Side: Rarities & B-Sides

I have two minds about this compilation. On the one hand, it succeeds in the areas that it really should. It is just about every recorded track The Anniversary had that wasn't on a full-length. It has two distinctly different discs (1 Demos from before Designing a Nervous Breakdown, 2 Etc material from there on). Yet on the other hand much of it isn't that great... passable, leaving no question as to why many were excluded originally.
4Rivers Cuomo
Alone II: The Home Recordings of Rivers Cuomo

Decent collection, but much like The Anniversary, too much meh material. Also, it becomes very clear throughout the album the three other members of Weezer deserve a bit more credit than they get. Many of these tracks feel like the backbone to a good Weezer song, just not nearly there yet.
5 The Vandals
BBC Sessions & Other Polished Turds

Much like the title implies, there is a set from the BBC, mostly covers or alternative versions of classics, and a bunch of random crap. Most of it isn't very good. There might be three originals on the entire disc. It flies by so fast though that the good songs shine brighter than the not so good ones distract from the overall picture.
